So... the Lanz Bulldog engine was originally (?) meant for tractors. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanz_Bulldog

Looks like the advantage on Feldbahn (narrow gauge railways), compared with steam locomotives, was that you could start it faster and operate it without a crew.
