I've putzed with tracked vehicle concepts, but the real things are so high maintenance
in comparison to wheeled-vehicles, plus they're slow and aren't suited to long distance
travel, that I've pretty much shelved them, except for maybe remnants of military/govt.
forces who have access to spares, or an organized group who took over such facilities
and have people who can do the work.

Wheeled vehicles make more sense for the average survivor scenario.

Thou preacheth to the choir, as my shoulder muscles involuntarily ache every time I see someone talking about purchasing a tank 'for fun' but in Buzzbomb's case, in a world where logistics have been severely attrited 'light' armor (like BMPs) would likely become the sustainable MBT. File this under the One Eyed Man being king in the world of the blind.

I've mentioned the Israeli nuclear powered laser gatling armed Centurions from the TEXAS ISRAELI WAR OF 1999 in other threads.

Within that novel (written in 1974) the Texas Armored forces included a substantial number of reconstituted antique gate guards (Stuarts and Shermans and the like).  So imagine an M5 with a non-standard (but maintainable) diesel or gasoline rat-rodded into the engine compartment* and a .50 M2 Browning replacing the demilitarized 37mm main gun (for which ammunition is rare anyway).

* Fun fact - the Yugoslavians kept their M36 Tank Destroyers running with T55 engine packs, long after the Ford GAAs gave up the ghost.

That gives me ideas!

Another post apocalyptic issue will be with fuel and petroleum products, like rubber. Vehicle tires will wear out, and mining old tire piles and landfills for "raw materials" will be energy intensive; tires are very dirty fuel and while they can be devucanized, it requires a bit of technology. So solid rubber composite tires or wood wheels. I can see a Tesla on oxcart wheels...

Engines would be the easy part with tracked vehicles, it’s the gearboxes, final drives, suspension
and track parts that’d become a maintenance issue, basically all of the motive components other
than the engine.

Yes and no. "All of the above" are supply issues, but there's also a reason that power packs where specifically designed as time went on with quick disconnects (because of their finite life spans).

There's actually maintenance matrixes that predict how long subcomponents are supposed to last, by mileage and hours. BTDT.

But yeah, there's a reason 3rd World Irregular types prefer Toyotas.

Sadly, for the advertising genius who came up with this poster, there are, in fact, only three Hilux's in it, the other five are Land Cruisers. :(

Must have been a journalist/reporter in a former life. ;)

Still ... Toyota! Yeah!

The main part of the plow is cut from a plastic drink cup. The plastic was brittle but it was polystyrene so it worked out in the end.
I might try using a small car model next time.

Does that mean COVID-19 is the Apocalypse?

Perhaps an Apocalypse rather than the Apocalypse? I'm getting the sense that this is gonna be more of an 'ongoing series' deal rather than one 'blockbuster release' event  :o

For some odd reason, I'm also thrown back to childhood memories of Christmas morning ... when the actual unwrapping of presents was a big part of the fun

Yep! Shapeways 2015 Ram. The guns (.5's) come from the Monogram/Revell F-82 kit which had become redundant after I used the kits for my Twin Fury and SEAC A-11 (CIA operated AF-82) builds.

Yeah, all well and good in a set situation with a supported logistics supply chain, but that isn't very
likely to be the reality in a post-Apocalyptic scenario.
