Interesting take on the breakup of the USA

You know all those What-If alternative histories in which Texas secedes from the USA? Well the writers might have been looking at the wrong state....

That could be interesting. Californians are a strange group of people.
There was a movement a number of years ago for northern California to split off and become the state of Jefferson. Same type of reasoning about different values and taxes going to southern California and little coming back to northern California. And fighting over water. Maybe it would stay at 50 states.

As a member of this strange group, I can tell you these most of these people are  full of it. They're "activists" who like to dress up as anarchists and protest, but go running to the cops as soon as anyone gets in their face. At any rate, California, or at least the southern part where I live is in no way ready to be independent. There is little in the way of primary resources like water, agriculture or energy production. We already have the highest taxes in the country which would only get worse. At least Texas has a more self sufficient infrastructure making their secession more feasible. Full disclosure: I haven't read the article, but the secessionists I have seen are mostly a joke.

As another member of the California Republic, I'd rather stay in the Union and fight for our fair share - we have 12% of the population and account for 14% of the country's GDP but our opinions and interests are discounted and overruled by the net drains in the country. California is big enough to weather the storm.

... California, or at least the southern part where I live is in no way ready to be independent...

Reminds me of the NoCal/SoCal split concept from when William Gibson was still writing cyberpunk.

That seems more plausible to me.

The last time states tried to secede from the union it didn't end well for them. Can't imagine the US willingly giving up such a strategic location.

Maybe some of the US states would join Canada:

Maybe some might even to have closer links with the UK or even...Australia. ;)

An acquaintance of mine working in defence was profusely apologised to today by a US Marine who was very embarrassed at reports of POTUS' beat down on our PM, his comment on Trump was "he's all hat and no head".  Never heard that one before but I like it and will retain it for possible future use  ;)
