I'd had a Heller Bf 109K-4 hanging around the stash for years. The kit decals weren't too good so I decided to build it as a racer using markings from a Techmod Bf 108 sheet.

If you're wondering why the clock is there that's because I was doing it as a 24 hour build over on another forum. The main airframe came together quickly. The cannon muzzle was removed from the spinner and the machine gun troughs on the cowling filled.

Then it was time for paint. I went for dark blue with a red nose and tail as a variation on the paint scheme for the 108. After a couple of coats it was nice and shiny.

The paint dried overnight so it was time for the decals, which went on well. I decided to put the racing number on the tail instead of the swastika as this is meant to be an early post war racer. There was a step between the windscreen and canopy so I posed the canopy open.

It makes a change from all those camouflaged examples.
