I loved playing Mechwarrior on Windows 95! There used to be a 1/35 kit of teh MADCAT but it looked a bit crude.

LEGO seems to be a popular medium for Mech builders. There's Mobile Frame Zero, which is a LEGO based tabletop Mech combat game:

A goggle image search for MFZ nets one lots of ideas.

As does this: http://www.brothers-brick.com/tag/mecha/ (http://www.brothers-brick.com/tag/mecha/)

The 1/35 Horizon vinyl kit of the Mad Cat isn't too bad; I have one here that I'm modifying the legs. Even better is the 1/60 Armorcast resin kits of the Mad Cat and Vulture, along with their optional weapons pods. Both the Horizon and Armorcast offerings can reach high prices really fast on eBay. I was fortunate that our IPMS Ottawa president is my best friend from high school, and gave me his Horizon kit when he found out I was into BattleTech. Gingie, if you're going to CAPCON 2015, you'll see all three there.

Some inspiration by Jakub Rozalski:<...>

Plenty more of his work in his ArtStation gallery: LINK! (http://www.artstation.com/artist/jakubrozalski)
Seriously talented chap! A lot of his work just begs to be made into dioramas.  :-*

If it doesn't include an Urbie... it doesn't count. :)

For sure, I plan on being there. Heard rumours it might be a 2-day show, or, they might leave the contest room open during judging.

Back on topic - I see Bandai is re-releasing some of the macross mechs. Tempted.

The model room will be open during the judging, but we're still hashing out the two-day event, if they go for it. Will keep you posted.
Title: Macross, Robotech, Gundam, Votoms, Maschinen Krieger SF3D, and Mecha Stuff
Post by: Jeffry Fontaine on June 30, 2017, 07:31:52 AM
I dabbled in Macross, Robotech, Gundam and Votom Armored Troopers a very long time ago.  I never really got on board with it unfortunately.  Some of it was appealing due to the VF-1 Valkyrie being an aircraft/space craft plus a human controlled war machine.  The Gundam mobile weapons also appealed to me but not to the point that I could stay interested.  I still like some aspects from all of these and some of the Gundam figures and vehicles in 1:35th scale do keep me interested but not enough to add to my kit stash.

So it looks like we need to start a topic on the Macross/Robotech Universe where these things can be discussed at length.

I have been corresponding with a maker at Shapeways by the name of Vladimir that has a lot of Robotech/Macross model accessories in various scales and one of the models he offers is called the TMM 201 missile in 1:60th scale which apparently is intended for a line of Macross/Robotech VF-1 Valkyrie models from DX Toys.  I asked Vladimir if he would be so kind as to scale the model up to 1:72nd and 1:48th scale.  He did honor my request and now in addition to the original 1:60th scale TMM 201 model there are now TMM 201 missile shapes for the 1:72nd and 1:48th scale Macross/Robotech kits plus anyone that has wanted a unique what-if weapon this is for you.

Links to Maker and models:

Xigfrid's 3D shop (https://www.shapeways.com/shops/xigfrid3dshop)

TMM 201 Missiles 1:72 scale (http://shpws.me/OILW)

1:48 scale TMM 201 Missiles (http://shpws.me/OIUd)

This model caught my eye because it is not a traditional missile shape and has some rather stealthy features.  It is rather plain but I would expect that from a weapon that needs a low RCS.  The weapon is about 15.0' in length which puts it in the same size range as the AIM-7 Sparrow and the AIM-120 AMRAAM weapons and that means you can tart up pretty much any F-14, F-15, F18, etc., with a not so standard missile shape just to be different.

I have this weapon set:

Some of which are making their way onto a modified Halcyon Aliens dropship, along with some brutish
Sov/Russian ordnance from a Zvezda set. The ship'll be pink in honour of Greg Ewald and the nose-art/name
will reference Ann Magnuson.

I've thought about building the first Robocop a few times-it is a fairly simple structure. meanwhile, I've been working on this:
