Title: Sabre
Post by: Ramba on October 31, 2022, 11:00:48 PM
I did a search and couldn't find any posts regarding Sabre so I started a new one. If I posted in the wrong place, mods feel free to move to the correct one.

Edit: This is not an upgrade set. It is a full kit.

Sabre is releasing a 1/35 JLTV.

They also include the later style BFT with the bigger dome. I Love Kit included the older style BFT. RFM includes the later style BFT as well. Only thing is, looks like Sabre's late style BFT is too long.

Late style BFT. Compare it to the image in the Sabre product image.

Original style BFT.

I noticed that Sabre also did not include the raised exhaust for the USMC JLTV. Another disappointment as neither I Love Kit or RFM included it either. So, still no USMC versions of the JLTV can be built without the raised exhaust.

Is this the version used by Australia (or planned to be used)?

I don't know if Australia will be using the JLTV but they do use something similar called the Hawkei. The Hawkei is actually pretty cool. I wish someone would release it in 1/35.

Here are a couple links to the Hawkei.

The Hawkei is quite a big vehicle but the cargo space at the back is surprisingly small.

Here are the few images I managed to grab of one of the 2-door model recently:

The 4-door version's cargo space is even smaller! :-\

Old Wombat, great photos. Thanks for sharing. It is a really cool looking vehicle.

I really like the 4 door version though. I wish Trumpeter or RFM would make one.

The JLTV cargo area is also quite small.

Australia did consider joining the JLTV program just over a decade ago but then went for the local Thales Hawkei instead:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawkei (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawkei)

They are both in the same class.  The Hawkei are big vehicles and I have seen them close up having walked the production line a few years ago.

I wish there was a kit available of it too.

That said, going back to the JLTV, one could always do an Australian Army Whiff... ;)

There were reported problems with the brakes on the Hawkei a few years ago.  I don't know they have been fixed but I hope so.

The bigger issue was the engine availability

If you look at the fine-print on most model kits they will say only suitable for ages 14 & above, I've never seen one with it so prominently across the front of box tho!

Imagine where we'd all be if they'd had this on kits when we were children? ???

Half of my childhood would have been an empty void! :o
