Title: Sopwith Dolphin - A One Wing Biplane.
Post by: robunos on July 23, 2022, 05:28:48 AM

I'm a bit a bit late to this GB, but I'm hoping I can get this completed before the end . . .
While finding out the kit for my 'Haifisch' Build here :-
https://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=10432.msg199727#msg199727
what did I happen to find on the pile next to it ? This kit . . .

Here's the sprue,

Off to another great start

And let's face it, something named Dolphin deserves to be a bit more svelte than Messrs Sopwith's original offering  :o

Okay . . .
Just a quick update, the model assembled and ready for painting . . .

I've moved the wing and undercarriage back slightly, and the original idea was to paint and finish the engine block before adding it, hence the black paint, but with hindsight, it'll be easier to paint at the end . . .

That's All For Now, stay tuned . . .

cheers,
Robin.

I will surely stay tuned! I’ll have to look this one up and see about how the pilot aimed the guns. From the artwork it looks like a strange method.

Looks good, Robin.

The Dolphin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sopwith_Dolphin) was a weird looking plane - perfect for a one wing conversion!

I didn't even know the kit was available. The Dolphin 'as-is' is a great WW1 whif-the monoplane transformation should be nifty!

Kovozavody Prostejov are doing what I hoped Airfix were going to do, after they released their BE.2 and Eindecker.
They're releasing several kits of Great War types, like the Dolphin, Roland 'Haifisch', Breguet 14, and Salmson 2A2, that were previously only available as vacforms, resin kits, or short-run kits from the likes of Pegasus, Merlin, etc.

cheers,

Robin.

They remind me of Heraldic Beasts, or the monsters you find on medievial maps . . .
