Great stuff

I remember that Italerei Reggiane Re.2001 kit well from days gone by. But the Delta-powered variant was always a favorite since seeing a photo of it in William Green's War Planes Vol.2!

This gets better and better

Love the Macchi C.201 and C.204! The CANSA FC.12 was intriguing ... and made perfect sense as a trainer. Not so sure about as an attack aircraft. Still, amazing to see it in kit form!

DO wonder why Reggiane didn't use same engine for the 2001?

Apparently, that was down to Regia Aeronautica planners who had become obsessed by German-style inverted V-12s. To that end, Isotta Fraschini developed the inverted A.120 R.C.40 from the Asso XI L.121.

By the time that IF got the A.120 underway, DB 601As were already available - first from Germany, then from IF competitor Alfa Romeo with their R.A.1000 R.C.41-I Monsone. After that, Asso engines mainly went into torpedo boats, IIRC.

Y'all must'a read FC.12 began life as trainer, re-branded for dive-bombing & ground attacking, Regia Aeronautica Italiana making do with FIAT CR.42s as trainers & ground attackers, Junkers 87s when Breda 64, 65 & 88 failed operationally, Breda 201 et. al. "Stuka" projects failing as well.

Don't forget the 1,700hp W/M-18 Reggiane 103 (https://it-m-wikipedia-org.translate.goog/wiki/Reggiane_RE_103?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en), same class as Daimler-Benz 603, heavier & more complicated though 100% Italian design, could had been produced earlier in war in lieu of licensed-built DB.601/605s.

Yup. And the Fiat A.38 would also have been available to the Regia Aeronautica much earlier if left in its original upright V-16 form.

Agreed on the AS.5. That engine should have seen a two-pronged development course - one into the twin-block AS.6 racing engine (to keep Il Duce's ego fluffed up), the other into a service variant of the simpler AS.5.

To make a service AS.5 derivative work - and certainly to ever see future 1,500 hp inline engines - Italy needed to up its game in refining aviation fuel to boost octane ratings.

That's a great collection of models. The Breda 44 really looks good! The Dragon Rapide influence is strong.
