Kawanishi N1K6 Kamikaze Attack aircraft
« on: November 11, 2023, 05:02:08 AM »
So, way back, I had bought a started Tamiya Kyofu for a P-40 conversion to floats (still on the shelf), but had the extra body left over and had a neat idea for it of a possible experimental fighter or specialized Kamikaze aircraft.

I got some inspiration from this picture I found online. (I think it was Deviant Art, I've lost the link so my apologies to the artist)

So, I moved the cockpit to the rear of the fuselage by the tail, filled in the old cockpit hole and some others and painted it up. Also made a take-off trolley for it out of spare parts.

Nicely done! (I think the trolley is excellent, but it might be a bit too sophisticated for Japan in 1945... ;) )

Excellent concept and beautifully done. And a nice bit of kit recycling as well

That image was rendered by Ronnie Olsthoorn aka 'Skyraider 3D'.

It depicts what Ronnie called a "Kugisho high-speed fighter design" from 1939. That Kūgi-shō was a short-form for what most of us know as the Naval Air Technical Arsenal at Yokosuka. This was one of a number of 'Seino Hyojun' (Performance Standard) studies done at Yokosuka - including a radial-engined type looking very much like an earlier version of your N1K6  :D

Ronnie mounted one of the original 1939 section drawing here:

You might be right on that! I was trying to make something that would clear the bomb and it did get a bit technical!

Thanks Apophenia, and thank you for finding that link!   Hats off to Ronnie for rendering the concept!!    The radial engine version looks interesting!
