DDG 1000, boredom destroyer ...
« on: May 15, 2015, 09:30:21 AM »
Decided to do a quickie build to fend off ennui.

Dragon 'Black Label' 1/700 DDG1000 Zumwalt as it sits after about an hour of work.
Fit is really good except for the bow bulge, it'll need a bit more fettling and a lick of filler.
RAM bricks are way overdone.  :-X

Been wondering what this kit was like, now I know, not bad detailing and shape wise, overdone in some areas :-[
Those tiles will need considerable sanding to make them more believable. the whole model will rely mostly on finish to make it 'shine'. ::)

Looks like house bricks.  Maybe you should paint it appropriately... ;)

Just to be the Devil's Advocate, I'm going to float this thread to the top of the bowl.

The Zumwalt class hulls are 180m (or 198 yards).

These three AIRFIX E-Boat lower hulls are 17.25" long.

They look suspiciously close to the Zumwalts.

Surplus AIRFIX hull lengths 17.25" = 1.4375'
Zumwalt real-life length 198 yds / translated to 1:144th scale = 1.375'

Add a sonor bulb, they'd be just about right as a starting point.

Unless someone was Hell-bent on doing a 1:96th scale build.

They're supposed to have 2 SH-60 LAMPS helicopters or 1 MH-60R helicopter.
