Interestingly, I came across this today, while reading the book 'Rommel's Desert Commanders' . . .
" By the beginning of May, however, his (Gustav Friedrich Julius von Vaerst, commander of the 5th Panzer Army) supply lines had collapsed completely. He was unable to prevent the Americans from breaking his lines during the first week of May.
Vaerst resisted to the maximum and, when he ran out of fuel, sent his last panzers into battle with their tanks full of Tunisian wine . . ."
