And off we go on another train of thought.

Andrew Plummer @AndrewPPhotos

An impressive Western line up. Old Oak Common, 2nd September 2017.

Great archive of trains.
I have been watching the Hornby Model Empire show in TV over the last month or so down here in Aus. I now know more about British Trains than I ever did. Been a wonderful show, not only does it cover the design and production of the Hornby brand, but also Airfix, Scaletrix and Corgi.

I just have ask, what are the sensor/saucepans on the sides in front of the horizontal stabilizers?

Directional Infrared Counter Measures (DIRCM).  It resembles a FLIR ball in that it can rotate and it is intended to jam IR guided missiles.

this is the front of a rail-magazine editor's business card.

Believe it's the line-up of the surviving locomotives of one class at a festival.

Nice image showing the aircraft taking part in Sentry Savannah. Some interesting black T-38s and, on the left hand side of the shot, middle row, The Black Jet. More details about the F-117 at Sentry Savannah here:

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

...Some interesting black T-38s and, ...

Apparently, some units with pretty special primary airplanes like U-2, F-22 or B-52 also have some black T-38 for some training where the expense of using the primary type is not justified.

Its interesting to see these in full high resolution colour so as to give a real feel for what it must have looked like in the 1940s rather than the typical black and white photos:

Diorama time. Should be done in 1/48 or larger.  8)

This 1944 photo is of factory-fresh Corsairs and Hellcats being prepared to be shipped to the Pacific.

Is this a NAS Moffat, NAS Santa Ana or NAS Tillamook hanger? Or another.

USS Missouri (left) and Iowa (right) prepare landing parties to Japan following the cessation of hostilities, taken August 20th, 1945. Note Missouri is easily identifiable by the quad 40 mount atop B turret, which is trained sharply to port.

Taken prior to the formal surrender, Missouri transfers crew to her sister in preparation for going ashore. With both ships sporting the latest in armament and radar suites, aircraft have not been neglected either; an SC-1 Seahawk can be seen on each of Missouri's catapults.

Note Iowa does not have a 40mm atop B turret due to her role as fleet flagship; the addition of such a tall mounting would obscure the vision of the lower levels of the heightened conning tower. As such, only single 20mm mountings have been placed there.

An F-102A flaunting its unique "removeable" inflight refueling probe (yup, that shining piping there). The probe was used predominantly during ferrying or for overseas deployments.

Doesn't look like Santa Ana or Tillamook (at least, not Hangar B). From the inny-outy bits, I'm wondering if it was NAS Sunnyvale (or another hangar from that decade-earlier era)?

Any idea if someone does a conversion kit for the refuelling probe?
