Chance-Vought Corsair FB.Mk6( modified Matchbox F4U-4).
« on: January 16, 2014, 10:48:31 AM »
The FAA liked the Corsair IIs & IVs that they used in combat so much that they bought a bunch of F4U-4s from Uncle Sammy. To ease the pain of "not made here" they reinvented the wheel and put Sea Fury propellers on them, which gave slightly better performance.

I bought a Matchbox kit with no canopy, propeller, or decals. A fellow modeler gave me the glass from a Hobby Boss kit. The prop came from a FROG Sea Fury that I put a Shackelton propeller on, and the markings came from the odds-and-sods box.

The paint is hand-brushed Humbrol Dark Sea Gray and White Ensign Sky. It ain't the best model I ever built but it was saved from the bin with a little ingenuity.

Adios, Larry.

Beautiful!!  Any chance they replaced the R2800 with a Centaurus in adition to changing out the propeller?

And a much sharper look! Nice work Larry  :)

You've perfectly captured the famous Royal Navy scheme which is pure eye-candy on that Corsair!

Bravo, Larry!

I didn't think about an engine change when I built this one. As it is I didn't have a spare Tempest II or Sea Fury nose in the scrapbox. I didn't' have a kit to bash, either. My object was merely to save the Corsair kit from the trashcan, using what was available. It was a "quick and dirty" solution. Thanks for the warm reception.

Adios, Larry.

Larry, lovely job! The Corsair looks good with a spinner, and that scheme looks good on anything but seems perfect on the Corsair. Very fine!
