Spitfire F.Mk.14 LR "Red Tails" (Academy 1/72)
« on: March 11, 2013, 03:03:56 AM »
Hello, I present my first What if this year's model. :)

It´s special lightweighted version of Spitfire Mk.14 with long range, which was used for escort of american bomb unions over Germany.
Due to possibility of carry external fuel tanks had Spitfires 14LR removed machine-guns and had locally firmed wings. The armament of two 20 mm canons Hispano had enlarged supply of ammo on 200 round/barrel.
This version was used by 332th Fighther Group - Tuskegee Airmen and also by some RAF squadrons. Displayed plane was flown by 1st Lt. Spurgeon Ellington.

Beautiful. I like the combination of the slipper tank and 75 Gal P-51 drop tanks.

How did you weather it?

Like a "designated spokesman of Cz What if SIG" I was charged for translating answers on Your questions... ;)

The Big Gimper asked for weathering...
For  "normal" colours comrade Ujik used preshading....and for metalic colours for change postshading (with slightly darker hue of original metall colour)....

I hope, that this answer is understandible....

I´m sorry, but You must excuse our, "poor eastmans",because in School we (mainly we "early-borned") we learn only russian...and english is for us slightly difficult, then russian....  ;)
Ask me what you want, I do what I want I'll answer....

Very nice   :)

But you're not far from the truth, in the Morgan/Shacklady book on the Spitfire, there's photos of one where they flight tested those wing tanks ---
