Yes. I posted some pix of it on the other site ages ago. I'll have to get it out of storage and put some pix up.

It'll have to be a USMC shore-based bird. The view over the nose is terrible!

I am thinking in a Jet Corsair.
Is there any aerodynamical reason for the wings to have that special configuration?
Would it have sense in a tricycle jet version?
Is it a better option for attack missions (remember Stuka)?

Thanks.

Well, there's a minor one in that this configuration brings the wings into the fuselage in a minimum drag position, but careful attention to wing root fairings can cover that.  Beyond that, it's a matter of how much "change" you want to introduce on the production line to switch from prop to jet or how much of the original structure you're trying to retain.  Go too far and you'd really be better off designing a whole new aircraft from scratch, retaining whatever systems you wished from the preceding one.

Interesting photo via Tommy Thomason:

Pratt & Whitney used two F4U-1s for R-4360 engine testing. The first one was for ground runs only, which began in May 1943. The second first flew on 12 September 1943.This picture was taken to illustrate the difference between the R-4360 configuration (referred to as F4U-1 WM for Wasp Major) and the R-2800 one.

One could model the birdcage cockpit one with the R-4360 to really confuse some people... ;)

F4U-1D Corsair SALLY, Marine Service Squadron 11, 1945.

This aircraft was put together from salvaged parts from written off Marine Corsairs in the Pacific. It was used as squadron hack of this maintenance and repair unit. It was also the only Corsair in the Pacific to be finished in lacquered silver for protection against the elements, they stripped off the dark gloss sea blue then sprayed it silver as they did not want it to be mistaken for a normal fighter Corsair. The guns were removed as they were not needed.

It would probably perform worse than a standard Coursair due to the heavier weight both of the engine and the associated cooling system.

According to Wikipedia, power-to-weight ratio:
Chrysler IV-2220 1.02 hp/lb
P&W R-2800 0.89 hp/lb

... and weight is roughly equal

Don't forget that the IV-2220 will require a liquid cooling system which the R-2800 doesn't require.

Here you can see F4U, F2G and my design.

According to wikipedia F2G was only 4 cm longer than F4U :o

Anyway in my definitive version, the plane will be 72 cm longer than standard F4U (measured in the base of propeller), so 1 cm more in my 1/72 model. 8)

I have moved radiator a little forward,

You might want to put the turbosupercharger under the belly like the XF4U-3,
thus moving all induction air to a single inlet and then turn the existing induction
system/oil cooler intakes in the stub-wing leading edges into radiator inlets. The
radiator exit slot would probably have to be in the upper wing skin due to the
crowded nature of the lower part of the stub wings.

Yes, both increased vertical tail height and the addition of a dorsal fin would seem indicated.  Ideally, a blend of the two in aesthetic harmony.

Here's a comparison of the standard F4U R-2800 installation and the R-4360 installation
of the F4U-1 WM testbed.

Note that the length from the firewall to the front of the cowling is pretty much the same,
the installation used a standard cowling with a new section added to the rear.

Well the AGM-65 is a tad bigger than the SS.11 - like ~300 kg vs 30 kg - but theoretically the F4U could probably have managed a pair.  Also theoretically, El Salvador and Honduras both still operated F4Us after the AGM-65 entered service.  That said, if either of them could have afforded/been provided AGM-65s I somehow think they would not have used them with F4Us...just saying.

I think the Russians would thought it was a bomber and tried to install a tail gunner.

That two seat trainer idea opens up the possibility for a target towing version.

Strip out the rear cockpit and put in winch gear.

It would also give you scope for some eye catching high visibility paint schemes.

What about a post war late model F4U in RAN FAA Service instead of the Sea Furies?  Using one of these schemes:

Wow! You learn something new every day. I had no idea they used Corsairs as target tugs.
