Title: 1/72 Chance Vought Corsair Mk. V RNZAF
Post by: The Big Gimper on August 21, 2012, 10:45:45 PM
Folks:

For your perusal is my WIP Corsair MK. V as flow by the RNZAF in late 1945, early 1946.

The Carl Corsair Checklist:

1. Corsair. Check!
2. Tip tanks. Check!
3. Aluminium finish. Check!

It checks out folks. This is his build profile.

The MK V was used a long range escort for the B-29Bs and B-32As over Japan. It is an upgraded MK IV with four 20mm cannons, 175 Gal belly tanks and two 175 Gal tip tanks.

The kit is a Tamiya/Italeri F4U-4B/C. Once the gear and prop are on, I'll provide the build notes,

I really like the tip tanks and that you painted them to match the tail.

Looking good!

Looks the part Carl and a second-glancer given the RNZAF's use of the baseline type.

Thanks Brian et al. I wanted to into tie into yellow ring on the fuselage roundel and the yellow made the A/C more visible to the bomber crews as an allied bird.

Build notes:

- Kit is the Tamiya re-packaged Italeri F4U-4B/C
- Tip tanks from the Revell P-47M. I blunted it by removing the ends.
- Propeller from the Academy P-47D. I broke the kit propeller right at the hub. Same scale diameter, blades a bit thicker in chord.
- Decals from Aeromaster 72-10 RNZAF Corsair IV
- Paint is Tamiya Gloss Aluminium spray bomb and Xtracrylix Yellow brushed on.
- Sharpie fine tip pen for the details

I have only built one other Corsair, the Hasegawa F4U-1 kit. This one was not as easy build as compared the Hasegawa. Wing interface to fuselage was very poor.
