Steve Bamford has provided a kit review with images for the AFV Club 1/35 scale Talon Tactical EOD Robot (product number AC35010) (http://www.arcarm.com/Rev1/001-100/rev074-AFV-Club-AC35010/00.shtm) at ARC-Armor (http://www.arcarm.com/)

Neat little kit. The real Talon can also be armed with small arms and support weapons. So keep that in mind if you acquire this kit and wish to arm it.

Resin kit with a Japanese list of ¥30,000. :-X :icon_fsm:
Hobby Fan, BTW, are the parent of AFV Club, so perhaps we'll later see an injected styrene version.
-
Nice !! pity it will be a resin kit :(
Still, there are many different colour-schemes --- US Army, US Navy, Oz Army, Argentine etc from overall natural aluminium, silver, white, red, OD or Gulf-war desert-yellow to various brown cams plus a few with civil Police markings and even a couple with toothy smiles !!
Would make a great diorama as I saw in the 1970's at my local yacht club -- bunch of Army sailors training so us yachties had to beware of their movements. One LARC coming ashore in the channel at low-tide & getting bogged in the klag of the well-known (to us) mudbank ..... second LARC coming to it's rescue also getting stuck !! After 2 hours, one managed to free itself but the other had to wait over-night for a wrecker to come & drag it to the shore ;D Good entertainment !
-
I'll be waiting on the 75mm pack howitzer to be released.
-
I'll be waiting on the 75mm pack howitzer to be released.
Me too. Would like to confirm that it is not the same kit (sprues) that was released under a limited run kit with the Vision Models brand name a couple of years ago.
Still waiting for the 40mm Bofors ammunition sets to be in stock so I can acquire a couple of those and we can only hope that AFV Club will do the same with the 75mm Pack Howitzer kit and provide sufficient ammunition types with the boxes and packing tubes to support that model.

Coming Soon From Hobby Fan – 1/35 LARC-V (Lighter, Amphibious Resupply, Cargo, 5 ton)
([url]http://wwiimodeller.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/Hobby-Fan-HF072-1-35-LARC-V-Lighter-Amphibious-Resupply-Cargo-5-ton.jpg[/url])
Now available at HobbySearch (1999.co.jp) (http://www.1999.co.jp)
Hobby Fan 1:35th scale resin LARC-V Early production, Vietnam War
Kit number HF072,
Price $363.9 USD (30,000 yen) (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10205063)
For that kind of price I would expect something a bit larger such as the LARC LX/BARC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LARC-LX) which has no problem carrying a LARC-V (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LARC-V)
-
That's over 200-quid for a model that's just under 32cm long! :o
What planet are they on? ???
-
Taiwan and the price is typical for their large resin kits:
http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/category/AF35K/20/1/maker/HBF.html (http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/category/AF35K/20/1/maker/HBF.html)
Good resin kits are expensive to produce so their profit margin is probably not as large as most
would assume.
-
Making something that big, what type of resin do they use ? I'm using a resin product for doing small things but all I have is 90 seconds to get it into the mould, those big kits would seem to need much longer --
-
there are quite a few different types of resin, the ones that are brittle tend to set faster & generate more heat while doing so. The drying time of softer resins can be controlled somewhat by the amount of hardner mixed in but there is a limit - too little & it will never harden at all :icon_nif:
The resins that set slower by design are usually for professional use & are only available in bulk ..... so if you use more than 20 ltrs of the stuff each month .....

AFV Club 1:35th scale Bofors British QF 40mm Mk III Anti-Aircraft Gun Late Type (http://www.missing-lynx.com/reviews/britain/afvclub35187reviewab_1.html) in-box review with peeeeectures courtesy of HyperScale.
-
Oooh, a "Stookey" sight. Nice. :))
-
Looking really nice. Need to see how bad that track is actually going to be. It appears to be vinyl rubberband.
http://www.afv-news.com/afvforum/the-pub/m109a2-howitzer-afv-club/ (http://www.afv-news.com/afvforum/the-pub/m109a2-howitzer-afv-club/)

Not that I need another M109 in the stash, I must have enough to field an entire battery plus by now. The little extras with the AFV Club kit certainly make it attractive though. Nice that AFV Club will be releasing the M63 Anti-Aircraft Mount for the M2 Browning HB as part of a weapons set. Wish they would do the same for the howitzer accessories as well.
-
Me too! Did not buy the new Kinetic kit because you can't turn it into an IDF vehicle. I have about 10 of the old Italeri kits and though they are nice, this AFV Club release will probably put it too shame.
-
Mine arrived yesterday and it is gorgeous! Down side is you can't make an IDF version out OOTB. You will need to steal the rear turret plate from the Italeri kit or scratch one. While the charge box is a seperate item, there are no A1 doors behind it. Also, while the vinyl track looks great, I think it may be similiar to Dragons DS versions and LONG in the tooth!
-
According to scalemodels.ru (LINK (http://scalemodels.ru/news/6236-anons-ot-AFV-Club--1-48-F-CK-1-Ching-Kuo.html)), AFV Club's next winged subject will be a 1/48 AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-Kuo!

Interesting...
-
Another "F-16-derivative". :)
-
Pity it's the wrong scale. Still waiting on an accurate 1/72 one. :(
-
If I was doing a whif air force, it would go well with Macchi 346 trainers since the F124 engines in the trainers are dry versions of the F125 engines in this one. If one wanted one of these for spare parts, I'd combine the engines with a Falcon 10 airframe (off the top of my head, I believe it was a Falcon 10 and not a Falcon 20) to model the testbed that Garrett AiResearch (now Honeywell) used for them.
-

True! A pity, really, as I would like to try my hand at one of these (found by "dy031101"):

-
One of those fuselages would look good with F-16XL wings.....
-
Be better off using the wings from a YF-22 or F-22, I'd reckon.

Something that will make some folks more excited than others is the announcement from AFV Club for the Norwegian Army NM-116 version of the M24 Chaffee (kit number AF35S82) (http://militarymodels.co.nz/2013/06/25/coming-soon-from-afv-club-norwegian-army-nm-116/)

another part of Hobby Fan / AFV Club. They have announced two Yugoslav tanks - M3 Stuart mounting a German quad-flak & same mounting the Pak-40. Also a truck with two Drilling (triple MG) mounts. All plastic by the looks.

Some interesting new or upcoming releases from AFV Club (http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/afvclub.html)
-
Hmmmm.......the Matador might have to enter the Dakar '47. ;D
-
I am liking the Churchill 3in Gun Carrier
-
Ah, an M60A1! Just what I've been looking for! ;)
-
Looking forward to the 6 pounder.
Not looking forward to the gazillion parts it will come with.
Somehow the 9 part Tamiya jobbie sometimes does not look that bad.
Loving the Matador, Something to pull my newly acquired Accurate Armour 5.5inch gun... so you folks can have an injection version.
-
I suspect a 5.5in will not be far behind the Matador (pun intended).
-
I am liking the Churchill 3in Gun Carrier
Same here, but the Sea Mines kit has me blinking in astonishment and delight. Whole lotta SF bash potential
in there
-
True. I looked at it and whilst part of me was very interested, the rest struggled to come up with an application.
-

Italeri 1/35th S-Boot.
-
Nah…too obvious... ;)
-
I suspect a 5.5in will not be far behind the Matador (pun intended).
good bet.
But if you have just bought a AA 5.5inch at Scalemodelworld and THEN you see the Matador, there is a certain amount of
Denial you can do for yourself :D
However given the ease of construction of the AA version over the gazillion parts you are bound to get in an AFV club version, outside of price..not sure which may be better in the long run
-
The AEC armoured car is nice to see: as far as I know, that's one of the vehicles that there's never been a kit of. (Prefer it in 1/72nd of course...)
-
True. I looked at it and whilst part of me was very interested, the rest struggled to come up with an application.
Italeri 1/35th S-Boot.
Bit big for an S-Boat. You'd need a dedicated minelayer to carry that sort of mine around. Of course, you could use them for Iranian mines, as the Russian mines the Iranians used back in the 1980s were an almost exactly copy of the German mine depicted...
Iran Ajr captured 21 September 1987 in the Persian Gulf by US forces.
-
Honestly, you lot call your selves whiffers? ;)....besides the S-boot, there's a type XXIII in 1/35 - containers ahead of the sail. The
landwasser schlepper, one or two on the stern.* Towed behind a Seehund. Hang one under the new Revell Ju 88. Build a bloody
Trebuchet and park it atop a Tiger chassis.
* with a little more finnagaling, a completly submersible LWS ?
-
<....> Build a bloody
Trebuchet and park it atop a Tiger chassis. <...>
:icon_twisted: Now we're talking! ;D

:) ;D
-
Build a bloody Trebuchet and park it atop a Tiger chassis.
Guffaw... the visions I am having are gold.. The practicalities of a silent(ish) launch are not lost on me either
-
I was thinking about trebuchet configurations. The trebuchet frame could be centered over the turret ring, which would provide both support for the trebuchet mine sling and a convenient area to load a new mine. It may be easier to have the mines launched to the rear, since it would reduce the travel for the "counterweight" which would be provided by a motor or directly from the main tank engine.
Alternatively, the trebuchet engine could be packed inside a cut down turret and the framework attached to the turret, allowing some azimuth pointing.

Don't Bronco do an AEC Mk. III? Or is theirs' a Mk. II? ???

Sorry, picture of the rototrailer is all wrong. It should show it abandoned on the side of some lonely desert track! ;D
They weren't popular because of the way the fuel leaked out of the hubs where it was stored. The seams leaked like sieves apparently.
The 3in looks interesting. Great Whiff picture. It's a brave man indeed who used the Lakeman MG mount. Usually it would be in danger of all the springs wrapping the mount around him! ;D ;D

apparently not - space for the after-market guys.
As there were several versions of both the launcher bobbins & the carpets too, I can see many possibilities for this kit.
Note :- this kit is not of the first type used at Dieppe.

I have their Centurion 5/1 on the way from an eBay seller - only $10 more expensive that the Tamiya one I missed out on - and from all I've read it's a gorgeous kit. I'm excited to get it in-hand! Technically, the B1 was different. Now sure how different.
Mostly internal changes, wiring connectors etc., major external is the moving of the spare tire mount to the driver's door,
which according to the boxtop art makes the Roden kit a B1.

Another must have. That thing would be devastating in a ground firing role. ;D

Whiffing the whiff, if six M2 .50cals fit then so should four 20mm.

It probably would with the elimination of the middle pair. That would have been a great weapon to have in Korea against the massed wave attacks the Chinese used.
Or a route protection vehicle in Vietnam to tear up large portions of the jungle in the case of an ambush.

Well that's neat!

Mine would have six 7.62 mm machine guns. Would carry more ammo to kill more zombies. >:D
How about a dozen 5.56mm miniguns? Or several dozen .22" LR?
-
I've always wondered about the practicality of those multi-gun projects. What I've read was those .5's fired at about 1100 rounds a minute, so X6 you're looking at 6600 rounds fired in a minute. How much room is needed to store that amount of ammo? 1 minutes worth of firing doesn't make it very good in my opinion
-
North American P-51 Mustang: approx. 30 sec of firing time
Guns: 6 × 0.50 caliber (12.7mm) AN/M2 Browning machine guns with 1,840 total rounds (380 rounds for each on the inboard pair, and 270 rounds for each of the outer two pair)
Rate of fire: 750–850 rounds/min (AN/M2)
Hawker Hurricane/Supermarine Spitfire: approx. 18 sec/19 sec of firing time
8 × .303 in Browning Mk II* machine guns (Spitfire - 350 rounds per gun) (Hurricane - inner guns 338 rounds, next gun 324 rounds, outer guns 338 rounds)
Rate of fire: initially 1,100 rounds/min
Given the above, 1 minute of firing time sounds pretty good.
-
In an aircraft I would agree with you, but this is a tank --- firing during air combat wasn't done at minutes at a time, anti-aircraft was just a continuous stream of firing. you'd need to be able to carry 1/2 hour or more of firing time. You'd just not be able to stuff that much ammo into the turret area.
-
The ZSU-23-4 "Shilka" carries 2000 rnds and fires at 3400-4000 rpm. So about half a minute total firing time. Of course this machine is radar guided so it would be easier to fire short bursts and be effective. Plus there would be more than one vehicle so one could be firing while others reload. Multi guns increase the rpm and anything that does that uses up ammo at that rate. Also applies to "gatling" type weapons too.
Same trade off between larger calibers vs smaller calibers. Larger calibers hit harder but its more difficult to carry large amounts of ammo. Same augment has been going on concerning the M-16 for generations now.
Mine would have six 7.62 mm machine guns. Would carry more ammo to kill more zombies. >:D
Plus you can't kill a zombie, they're already dead. :o ;D

AFV Club has announced a M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle is in the works. This coming kit should be based on their already release M60 tank kits, and should be a real hit. No release date as of yet, but stay tuned for more details as the become available.

I keep to-ing & fro-ing about whether to buy a M60A2 or not.
Anyone know if there's a PE/metal 1/35 GAU-8 barrel set available &, if so, where I can get one? ???
Otherwise, I could always try the 1/32 Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II - GAU-8 Avenger Gun Tip from Master Models, which scales out to about 32.8mm (but I'd still have to figure out barrels & a support structure), or I could always drop down to a mere 20mm M-61 Vulcan (for which I already have the barrel set).
I could probably re-purpose a 1/350 ship's search radar &/or scratch build that & an enclosed targeting radar, for acquisition & tracking.
-

Guy,
Why not go with the T250 six-barrel 37 mm Gatling gun that was part of the T249 Vigilante Air Defense System (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T249_Vigilante)? This would be the ideal weapon system for shredding ground targets in 'War Hammer 40K' mode.

The T250 was revisited and chambered in 35mm for the DIVADS program so it has potential. Personally I would rather see a 57mm chain gun in the M60A2 turret just because.
-
You could just scratchbuild the gun in 1/35 scale, as I did with my M111 SPAA Gun (http://beyondthesprues.com/Forum/index.php?topic=4777.msg77689#msg77689):

Not really into armour but I had wondered if there was bigger rotary cannons than the GAU-8. Did they ever try a 40mm?
-
;D As you were writing that, kintut617, I was writing this:

Don't want a chain gun for this, Jeff. Multi-barrel looks better. ;)

Neither of those were put into production, so if I went that route why not buy 3 or 4 of these& create a 40mm 3-barrel or 4-barrel Gatling gun?

In response to your question, kitnut, the short answer is "No".
You've got;
M61 Vulcan 6-barrel 20mm
Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-6-23 - 6-barrel 23mm
GAU-8/A Avenger - 7-barrel 30mm
GAU-13/A - 4-barrel variant of GAU-8
Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-6-30 - 6-barrel 30mm
GAU-12/U Equalizer - 5-barrel 25mm
GAU-22/A - 4-barrel variant of GAU-12
T249 Vigilante - 37mm or 35mm variants
(Note: These are cannon only & the list doesn't include machine-gun calibred weapons like the mini-gun.)

Thanks Guy

My work here is done :P
However, I must add that a completely fictitious 57mm Chain Gun is more appealing as there are few barrels required and the M60A2 turret seems built for that purpose with narrow frontal silhouette. Elevation for your Gatling Gun weapon will be just as problematic due to the limited elevation and depression featured with the original weapon system (152mm gun/missile launcher). There is a 40mm Chain Gun available but the ammunition for that weapon is a 'Telescoping Round' and not the same as the 40mm/L60 or 40mm/L70 Bofors.
For Robert/KitNut617: Largest calibre for Gatling Gun was as far as I can tell is the 37mm round that was developed from a 40mm Bofors cartridge by reducing length and caliber to 37mm. Why reduce the size? I would imagine a 40mm/L60 round would be just as effective as the 37mm round developed for the T250 37mm Gatling Gun/Cannon. The only reason I can think of for reducing the caliber to 37mm may have been to weapons classification where weapons under a certain bore size are determined to be light weapons and not heavy weapons. See this a lot when describing types of artillery so that may be the reason why. Not that it really matters to the person being shot at as all guns are a threat, no matter what the bore size is.

Super for S.E.A. brown water navy.

The largest multi-barreled rotary cannon was the 47 mm Hotchkiss, if memory serves - but it was hand cranked, purely mechanical weapon. A bit more data here: https://www.forgottenweapons.com/manual-machine-guns/hotchkiss-revolving-cannon/ (https://www.forgottenweapons.com/manual-machine-guns/hotchkiss-revolving-cannon/)
(Interesting revelation - Hotchkiss evidently made them as large as 53 mm according to the link. )

It's an LVTP 5. In service in from 1950s onwards. Used by USMC and Philippine marines. The AD version was prototyped only. I think they were used at the Danang landings. Ive got the afv Kit its a big one.

http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/coldwar/US/LVTP-5.php (http://www.tanks-encyclopedia.com/coldwar/US/LVTP-5.php)
The vehicle tracks were made with inverted grousers which propelled the LVTP5 in the water and also served as center guide teeth.

I don't think so, but it is a sister to the Ikv 91:

"CANNON TEAL" is an odd name. Was that the code name for the MAP program that provided the LVTH-6 and AMTRACs to Taiwan?
LVTH-6 is definitely going on my wish list.

Comment from AFV club re changes from earlier version:
"Not much, this is a World War II version (of course, this section also has some artillery to continue to serve after World War II), the previous is M115 is the configuration after World War II, there will be different places in the details."

Of course! Because I bought the Panda version. ::) ;)
Just one? I picked up a pair of the Panda kits. Now I have to contemplate acquiring the AFV Club version just in case the parts count is greater ;)
-
I only have 6 Stryker's in the stash (5 variants) plus left-over parts from the High Mobility Battlefield Logistics Transport vehicle. 2 x ICV's, 1 x CV/TACP, 1 x Dragoon IFV, 1 x MGS, 1 x ESV. Probably need to buy another recce version, though. Pretty decent Armoured Infantry platoon combat team.
How many more, do you reckon, to have a company combat team? ??? ;)
-
Depends on the TO&E.
***edit to provide more information***
Since I had no clue as to what the numbers are for the Stryker family of vehicles operated by and organic to a typical Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) I did a little digging and found a link to a discussion forum where some numbers are given. To preserve this topic and prevent going off on a tangent the information with link was sent to your eMail address.
A quick look at Wiki provided this link: Brigade Combat Team (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigade_combat_team) which is a bit light on numbers but gives you an overview of the SBCT if you scroll down to that portion of the page.

It was more in jest than serious - I ain't that rich! ;D

I thought it wise to look it up as I really had not given it much thought over the years. My interests were more inclined towards the M113 family of vehicles but times have changed and the Stryker and other vehicles like it are now the favourite means of getting around nowadays.

M113 Jeff ? I had to go look that up ---- ;D :P

We're going to have a guest at our club meeting this Saturday, 14-09-19
"Mr. AFV Club" is attending this Saturday!
Greetings All -
Member Pei Chi has informed me that he will be escorting the President of AFV Club to our club meeting
this Saturday. Mr. Tserng will be in town visiting local museums before flying down to LA.
I thought it would be nice for him to see some of his company's products on display when he comes, so I am
inviting everyone to bring their completed AFV Club builds - if you want to. I am not sure how long he can
stay, so I am guessing that these will go on a different table or tables than the normal show and tell stuff.
AFV Club specializes in armor kits, but they also produce many fine aircraft and other types of models in
their inventory. Mr. Tserng has been supplying free models to reviewers for a few years now. It would
be nice to show him what we've done (in person). But this is entirely voluntary - I know how easy it is
to damage models in transit!
Thanks - and I'll see you all Saturday!
Eric

It's a TOW jeep designed to look like a 106mm RR Jeep?
-
I'm not expert but does TOW come in short and long tube versions?
-
I think it's not a TOW but a FOOT (Fast Optically tracked Optional wire Track)
Carl made me do it!
-
I'm not expert but does TOW come in short and long tube versions?
The original HAW (Heavy Anti-Armour/Anti-Tank)Weapon System that became the TOW did have a much longer launch tube as depicted in the AFV Club kit image but by the time it was put to the test in actual combat in SEA the launch tube was cut down to the length we now see for almost all TOW missile systems fielded. The exception being the M113 with TOW that was fielded in Europe with USAREUR units which had the longer launch tube. That too was soon reduced in overall length to the standard short tube. I was not aware of Israel acquiring the long tube TOW systems so that alone is a nice bit of history.

Thanks

These are the best images I have found showing in Israeli service: <snip>
The IDF TOW units usually consisted of two vehicles. One with the TOW launcher as shown and a second vehicle carrying additional missiles to support the system with a larger basic load of missiles in lieu of a 1/4-T trailer loaded with missiles.

I received my two AFV Club Stryker CROWS-J kits yesterday afternoon. Quick inspection of the kit contents shows the following:
The Javelin bits in this kit consist of one parts runner containing one shipping and storage container (the plastic tube thing), two Javelin ATGM missile tubes, two CLU (one UK, one US). The PE provided for the one turned metal Javelin missile contains all of the fins and other detail bits for the two CLU.
-
I see how the missile launches at an upward angle so that’s ok in the prairie but what do you do in the woods? Even urban fighting could involve tree lined streets.
This Javelin kit would be essential for a Ukraine diorama.
-
The new parts included with the AFV Club M1126 Stryker CROWS-J are shown in the attached image.

I still like the idea of a variant/alternate with the turret of the FV107 Scimitar with a high-velocity 30 mm L21 RARDEN cannon instead of the 76mm gun armed FV101 Scorpion turret. Would be an early step towards an Australian IFV, especially if combined with the later M113AS4 upgrade. A roof mounted Milan launcher wouldn't go astray either...

There would be bugger-all room for dismounts in such a vehicle. The turret basket would take up all the internal room.

Back in the day the MRV was operated by CAV in the rec role rather than supporting APCs. There were three LRVs (Light Recon Vehicles) and two MRVs per troop, one of the three LRVs being used as an APC for the Assault Troopers (veggies). Technically the 30/50 Cal combo was the LRV while the original twin 30 cals were APCs, however this changed, I believe in the 80s where all APCs and LRVs were converted to the same 30/50 cal config.
It's not too great a stretch to imagine a Troop consisting of two Rarden armed LRVs, two 76mm armed MRVs and one or two 30/50cal APCs, especially if one of the APCs carried an ATGW team.

One could possibly operate in a 3+4 configuration, either as a light IFV or a Recon Variant equivalent to the M3 Bradleys.
Or, as I mentioned, combine this with the AS4 lengthening and go something like 3 + 6.

a LAV-25 turret fits!

That could be another variation - Australia upgrades their M113s (as part of the AS4 upgrade perhaps) in the 1990s at the same time as they acquire the ASLAVs and use the same turret.

Yes, unfortunately, we in defence procurements have decided that not only does that idea make a lot of sense, it would save money and turret crew training time. So I'm afraid its a no.

There would be bugger-all room for dismounts in such a vehicle. The turret basket would take up all the internal room.
Not necessarily any less so than the real world MRVs/FSVs
The FSV could carry two at most dismounts, going by your photos. Not going to work all that well as a standard MICV...

AFV is releasing an upgraded version of the M1128 Stryker MGS. Announced on their Facebook page. Of course they are releasing the upgraded version after I bought the Eduard upgrade set and Blast Models DEK and A/C. The AFV upgraded version includes the BFT that I still need and a couple other parts but the Eduard set includes some parts that the AFV upgraded version didn't include.

Hopefully those parts will be released as an "upgrade kit" like they did with the two other Stryker upgrade kits.

I am hoping they are released separately.

Wonder if they will do the Netherlands's special police version with airliner storming ladder. I already have a basic AFV Club YPR & anti-terrorist figures.

I could be wrong - but, did AFV club get the tracks wrong for that era of YPR?
