Wow - excellent. Is he selling them or did he just do those three?

I was hoping it was a kit, but it looks like he has just done those three so far (one of them sold on Ebay for $4,000 US!!) A little too rich for my blood,  :-X

From Deviant Art. Various Orion III Images:

I'd really love to see some one illustrate the launch as described in Clarke's novelization.  I keep thinking of a booster stage that resembles a massively scaled-up Hawker P.1134 and carries the Orion to launch altitude/velocity.

Actually, I think it might be tied to Project A119.

No, I hadn't seen it.  It looks somewhat plausible,  I was going with the concept I described because it also comes close to a reusable two-stage-to-orbit concept Clarke used in his earliest novel, Prelude to Space.

Proposed reusable launch systems:

Airbus's ADELINE: http://www.theengineer.co.uk/aerospace/news/airbus-announces-adeline-space-launcher-recovery-system-and-plans-for-orbital-electric-tug/1020473.article

United Launch Alliance's Vulcan: http://www.theengineer.co.uk/aerospace/news/reusable-vulcan-space-rocket-unveiled-by-united-launch-alliance/1020206.article

Both of these use the idea of recovering the expensive bits of a spent first stage booster (engines & electronics) but letting the empty tankage crash/burn up. Both also avoid the recoverable bits coming down in the ocean, which significantly increases the time and cost of refurbishing them.

I had a similar idea years ago, but mine had the engine section coming down on a deployable para-glider and landing on air-bags on any bit of dry land, so kind or a combination of the two. I'm not sure it's glide ratio would have been good enough though, unless there was an island (natural or artificial) under the flight path.

If you do a Google image search for the triple nuke-the-Moon rocket illustration, the artist is listed as a "Chesley Bonestell"... even though it doesn't look at all like his style and it clearly signed "Ward '57'
This artwork is from Eagle Annual #8.

Concept rescue helicopter by Katsuhiro Otomo

There were serious thoughts of using a nuke on the moon to blow chucks of regolith back to Earth. Seriously. Carl Sagan worked on the math behind it, and it was certainly within the technological capability of the US to do in the near future (from a late 1950s perspective).
Imagine that mission going wrong?
"Uh, Washington? We've lost control of our Moon Missile, and it's going to hit the Earth sometime in the next three months, give or take 8 weeks. And the bomb is armed..."
At least if it had hit the moon, it would have been a little harder for idiots to deny it happened. "Yes Johnny, your grandfather was looking at the moon back in 1963, with his 12 inch telescope. That's why he has that hole burned through his skull."
