Although, I think leaving the turret in situ is a waste of resources & an unnecessary increase in drag & weight. ;)

I first planned to remove it an plate it over. But then I decided that the forward movement of the CG due to the warhead would necessitate all the aft weight possible. So, why remove the obsolete turret, just to replace it with ballast? So I removed the gun, but left the turret in place, using the gun opening as a mount for the aft strut.
That was my thinking anyway. In addition, there was the modeling consideration that  the contours around the turret made a patch a lot more difficult than I expected.
