1/35 Meng BMPT Terminator - Urban Pacification Unit
« on: November 09, 2015, 09:02:55 AM »
This is something a little different to come off my work bench - an armour subject. In this case, it's the 1/35 Meng BMPT Terminator

Great kit - goes together really well. The tracks were confusing to start with but after doing a few links it's easy to do. I gave up on the jig they supply - it just wasn't working for me, so the were all joined together using the spacing on the sprues.

I ummed and ahh'd about the scheme for ages: I loved the splinter pattern but not the colours and I liked the 2009 colours but not the camo pattern. I know - I'm very finicky like that. So after a while, I decided to do it in Urban Camo colours and I must admit, I am really happy with my choices.

All painted using Gunze and Tamiya and I tried out Vallejo washes and varnishes for the first time. I am suitably impressed. I did seriously contemplate doing some chipping however, I wanted it to look used - not abused.

I realised I had forgotten to add the tow cables and wing mirrors before I shot the following pics, so I do know they are missing (they are one now though) and I've just finished the EMT units that will also go on the front.

Enough talking, time for the pics:

Well, I think that's enough pictures. Any and all comments, critiques or suggestions are always invited

Thanks for looking

Big ticks here, everything works.
It certainly looks like a great kit and the colours really work.

Love it

A few thoughts:

1) D@mn! That's a great looking model - the camo pattern, the colors, the subject itself - all awesome!

B) No such thing as too many photos - bring them on! "Can I have some more, sir?"

iii) Inspiring - I want just the turret to put on other platforms, but I'm also looking to print off a couple similar ideas for some LAV-25s I have in the stash.

That's a great build! Which Vallejo washes did you use? The ones that come in the small 17ml bottles or in the bigger bottles? There's a difference between the two (smaller pigment size). Did you use a gloss varnish first, then the wash then a flat?

Thanks guys
Your right in every sense there Frank. The washes were the smaller bottle. The guy at the hobby shop said he preferred the Game colour washes because they were stronger in terms of presence but I didn't want the washes to be over bearing, so I went with the smaller bottles. I used the satin coat, washed then their flat coat. It's the first time I've ever used the Vallejo paints and I must admit, I do like them except for the fact they clog up the airbrush nozzle very quickly
I hope to see your one here Steve! I love these machines, they're so evil looking and well deserved of their nickname

Great build, Mr Hatter! :)

However, I keep seeing it as a fire-fighting vehicle with the weapons replaced by remote-operated water & foam cannons.
