Fast Attack Vehicle (FAV) in Iraq - Finished!
« on: February 24, 2015, 07:31:48 AM »
Hi guys!

This time there will be no what-if, no fiction, no nothing. Just plain old boring real life modelling ;)

I am building this for a friend of mine, who is building an Iraq diorama with lots and lots of vehicles and stuff.

The kit is the Delta Force Desert Storm - FAV,  from Hobby Fan, and it is a resin kit.

Lots of tiny little resin pieces with no numbering or identification. My favorite kind of puzzle! :)

Fortunately I am a very organized person :)

And after a few hours of sawing and sanding all those resin blocks, and gluing some initial parts, I got this:

I will not paint the figures, because my friend wants to use some other figures for a particular setup he is thinking.

In terms of colors, I can already advance that the vehicle will be black, according also to my friend's request.
Just like the Ford Model T. You can have it any color you like as long as it is black :)

Thanks for looking!

And the wiring continues...

Hi guys

Thanks for the comments.

The interior was improved with a few scratch-built "extras":

And finally some paint!
Tamiya Nato Black, to be exact, which is a very dark grey.
As you know, you should never use "pure black" on any modeling subject (with very few exceptions - ant this one is not one of them :) ).

Next stop: Painting the details.

Thanks for watching!

So everything is pretty much finished in terms of painting.

Now is time to assemble all the bits and give it an "overall dust treatment"  ;)

Do you ever paint on canvas? You know, art gallery stuff. If you don't, you should.

No, not really. Traditional painting on canvas is way too complicated for me. I will leave it to the real artists. :)

Anyway, I managed to finally assemble all the missing bits and pieces, and finished the FAV.

Here is is, ready to be inserted in my friend's diorama:

Lovely job!  Really looks great and very well weathered.

I recently revisited a thread on Armorama which I had started back in 2013 when one of these was listed in the Hobbyboss 2014 catalog as "New" but it never happened. But one of the contributers, who is known to have contact in HB and gets their news before anyone else, has only the othere day confirmed HB will do one of these....sometime! We live in hope as a plastic main-stream manufacturer version would be more affordable

absolutley awesome work as usual Antonio. After seeing a few of your builds now, it seems I should expect nothing less ;)
Just one thing though - and really, this is just probably me - but is the barrell of that M61 (or what ever it is) gun on the passenger side a little bit drooped?
Regardless, I love this machine and it looks brilliant in off-black
Are we going to get to see the finsihed diorama?

Hi guys

Thanks for the nice words!

Regarding the barrel of the machine gun on the passenger seat, it is indeed a little bit warped.
Thanks for the warning!
That's a a common problem with resin kit, and it will need a little bit of heat to get to the right position :)

As for the final diorama, it will take at least some years to get it finished.
My friend wants to put so many things on it (a street with some big buildings and a mosque,
many figures, around 10 big vehicles, 1 helicopter, etc.) that it not be easy to complete in a short time.

I have offered myself to build him a couple of the vehicles (Iraq and modern AFVs are not my hottest
modeling area of interest,  so after a couple I will probably get bored :)), but the rest is still a ton of work
that needs to be done. We will see what the future brings.

For now I am choosing the next one to build. I will keep you informed :)

You modeling skill and painting skill are exquisite. Far beyond mine. Now why should i never base paint my model black? Or pure black. Is it a shading thing. Or a scale perspective thing.
