Can we begin Ideas recollection for 2017 in this thread? Will GTX open other?

Well in 2017 we will conmemorate 100 years of Soviet Revolution. So, a Red Star Soviet GB is mandatory IMHO.

Tie all the Medical/CSAR/SAR types into an all inclusive "Rescue Me" Group Build?  That would make for a larger pool of ideas/concepts and include our civilian- and military-focused membership.

Group Build based on Part count or Hours
« Reply #235 on: June 10, 2016, 07:08:48 PM »
Brian et al:

I am having a great time building my very basic Revell P-26A. With the addition of my add-ons, my part count is around 25. And your Stanislavsk St-1 build Brian prompted this idea:

So how about a future GB based on the part count for physical models and number of hours for drawing or profile. It would have to be on the honour system (can we trust ourselves?). So we have categories based on part count or hours.

Thoughts? Great idea or WTF?

Carl

I really like this idea! We could call it the Short Shift GB.

One neat aspect about building a model with few parts is that it takes you back to how you may have built models when you were young, before things got so complicated. Perhaps the profile artists might appreciate being given license to take a similar approach.

I guess my Jimmy Flintstone 1/25 Goldenrod LSR car would qualify, it has all of 15 parts.  ;D

Some resin kits will easily win on parts count (low quantity that is) - I have a couple that may only have 5 - 6 parts in total.

So true.  Good example was the $20.00 resin 1:48th scale A-3 Skywarrior I purchased years ago.  It had a one piece fuselage, two wings, two horizontal tail pieces, two engines and a cavity where the cockpit was supposed to go.  So a total of seven parts and your imagination to create something from it.  So glad I got rid of that kit. :)

So here is what I was thinking.

There will be the usual high level categories: Physical Models, Pixels/Profiles and Stories but for each of these, we will have sub-categories which are separated up by part numbers or hours.

Using the Physical Models as an example, we could have the following categories:

1-50 part count
51-100 part count
101-200 part count
201-500 part count
501- unlimited part count. IE the 1/35 Hobby Boss M1070 Truck Tractor & M1000 Heavy Equipment Transporter Semi-trailer which has 1,690+.  :icon_crap:

Parts is a sum of the base kit and any add-ons provided by the builder. Honestly is key here.

Now I must expose my ignorance on the time to required to complete a drawing or profile. We could ask one of the profilers for some examples of time. IE 1-10 hours, 11-20 and so on.

As an incentive to get more participants, I will be wiling to donate a prize kit/book or two.

Wah-du-ya-think?

I have been wanting to do a 48 hour Tomcat, and (eventually do one in 24 hour) Tomcat forever. I just haven't found a free weekend to attempt it.  :icon_crap:

But I like the idea for sure. time is my scarcest commodity. Lots of kits, and good on money. No damn time though I feel like this guy:

International GB  ---  Identifiable not minor finishing pieces are from kits of at least two different nations.
Random examples:

> Panzer running gear on Sherman hull with Cromwell turret
> Stirling bomber with B-29 wings.
> Hood with Bismarck turrets and bridge superstructure.

To obtain desired results, build could happen to also be scaleorama which does not matter.

I like that!!

I had a thought about "start to finish" where you basically show the whole process of building a kit or a profile (could be a kind of tutorial?) But basically its from when you start brain storming, or thinking, maybe a rough sketch (even a cocktail napkin) and or plastic fondling before cutting and showing your whiffing/building process or style along the way until its finished.

Could be a neat peak into how everyone does what they do here  :) It would take everyone playing along though, more pictures, more posts/explanations.  Lost track of how many times Ive thought "how'd they do that?!"

Actually considering finally building my Matilda Medium tank, definitely with modified Matilda hull, Churchill turret and if I can source a kit in time, M-3 Lee/Grant running gear.

International GB: By mixing up some 1/700th kits you could do a Type 42 destroyer with US weapons and sensors.

Mk 13 instead of Sea Dart
5" Mk 45 instead of 4.5" Mk.8
2 x SPG-51 trackers in place of the forward Type 909 and the Type 965
SPS-39 or -52 in place of the aft Type 909
Seasprite helo instead of Lynx

International GB: You might imagine a situation where the Shillelagh missile system worked well enough to be exported, so you have an M-60A2 turret on a Leo-1 or Chieftain chassis.
