Hi guys,

Here's a few pics of some of my built models and some work-in-progress models, I thought I'd share with you guys. :)

First is the V-29 Akula.

Nice work!

All 1/72nd scale?

That VTOL based on the MiG-29 looks real nice with the forward swept wing arrangement.  Your Corsair hybrid is also interesting, always wondered what a V engine corsair would look like in solid form.

Those are frikken brilliant :want: The Akula is one of the coolest builds I have seen and you must tell me what nose you used on the Corsair hybrid so that I may steal your idea :in-love: :want: :yarr:

Looks a bit like a nose from a Yokosuka D4Y1 or maybe even a XP-37???

Hi gang,

Thank you for the kind compliments... :-[

The are all 1/72.

The Akula was built in 2001 from many model parts!
-Mig-29 airframe from which I chopped the engine bulges and intake trunks.
-Grumman X-29's wings and cockpit.
-F-5 canopy.
-Mig-23 intakes (turned them horizontal on the model.
-Kfir tailfins, small intake vents, nosewheel leg and main wheels.
-F4U4 main legs that retract backwards into the halves of a Hawker Hunter fuel tank.
-Matchbox Lynx rear fuselage inserts to go behind and extend Mig-23 intakes.
-M-1 Abrams turret behind that.
-Refueling probe from a Buccaneer.
-Smoke-stacks from a toy/Lego ship for exhausts that rotate on a koki-pen on a shaft.
-Tornado exhaust nozzle between the intakes as a typical russian lift-jet.
-Scaratchbuilt canards and airbrake.
-Decals from the Italeri Mig-37B Ferret E, Soviet Navy flag from Italeri Su-27 Sea Flanker and the sharkmouth from a Heller Vampire/Mistral.

The Yak-130 is an out-of-the-box Amodel kit with decals from MAV Decals.

The CG-1 Dynablade I built when I was still in highschool. This was also built from a lot of stuff.

The Pike is a BAC Lightning airframe with F-8E forward fuselage. F-8E tailplanes used as canards, and the main wings are from a TSR.2.

As for the Corsair, old Matchbox kit with a scatchbuilt engine based on the P-40B Tomahawk. The idea was to make a mould of the nose and share it, but I just never got to do it. The Corsair started off as a profile, but I encountered a big problem when trying to fit a Tomahawk engine to it. The Corsair airframe is a perfect circle in cross section, and the Tomahawk oval.

Cheers

Am on board with the other comments.  Like all your builds and creativity.  Get many ideas from what the rest of you do.  In particular, would not have thought of the Lightning/F-8 combo and it flows together well.

Yeah, I hate when A/C manufacturers did not take into consideration that one day we modelers were going to mix-n-match airframes and engines and that we need a consistent engine and fuselage cross-profiles to build our dream A/C.

How rude of them.

Work in progress ::

I am giving up listing them. They all end up on the shelf of procrastination anyways.

Hi Gang,

Thank you for the flattering comments... :-[

The F-4-F-40 was a tricky mod, but the Pike also had some challenges, as the Crusader fuselage is much wider than the Lightning. I had to wedge the Lightning fuselage wider, then added the forward section of a 1/48 Mirage III ventral fuel tank to complete the spine to the rear of the canopy. I've discovered three more half-built whif projects during my move to the new house. Will take some pics and post them later today.

Nice job! Did you carve it out of soap from your padded cell??

 :slow:
You get padded cells? :o   I'll have to speak to the matron...  :yarr:
Didnt have any soap, so I used a chunk of resin.

As I mentioned a few models I forgot about, here they are. :D

A Super Etendard with Kfir/Cheetah wings. Canards to be added.

A Draken with Mirage IIIE tail piece and J-79 nozzle, intakes slanted to the rear, new tailfin, nose centreline dropped, ACES II ejection seat. Canards still to be added.

The Thunderhawk was a Matchbox Hawk 200 with elevators used as winglets, 1/48 Impala mk.1 gunpods over the intakes, Vigilante nose cone, A-10 engines with J-79 nozzles, Kfir canards as vertical fins and a fueltank extending between the engines.

Thanks Alex. That Thunderhawk was started in 2001! >:(

I discovered yet another half-built project! This one is of the cancelled Project Carver. It was supposed to be the SAAF's next generation indigenous fighter. An artist impression appeared in a magazine in 1986. This 1/72 model I'm busy building, is based on that, although far from what it was to look like.

-I used an F-15 forward fuselage
-Tornado rear fuselage
-Mirage IV tail cone
-Spine made from a fuel tank
-1/48 Mirage III wings
-ATAR 09-K50 nozzles from my F-1AZ conversions
-Kfir canards
-Made my own canopy

Cheers
