No long backstory for this one so clear your mind and lets imagine `What If` the Sea Vixen had gone into service on time with the USN showing an interest and purchasing it as a stop gap prior to the F-4 Phantom. VF-112 took the Vixen into combat in the last few months of the Korean War. Ok.., a bit of a long shot, but perhaps she may have looked like this?

To me too. :)
Oh yeah,,, carries 40's-50's Navy blue just fine. Love the concept and your build, certainly captured look of that era. :-*
Close eyes, concentrate and mental image of them on Midway & Forrestal class can be envisioned - cool. 8)

Really looks the part, really nice model and paint.
The big US codes take the mind off the Vixen thing ..... plus it's not like you think odd things when you see a Phantom in Brit markings or anything.
cheers

Great build and finish, love the What If, well done!!
-
Beautiful!! Quite plausible. It does cry out for a later companion in gull grey and white.
-
Doesn't that ever look the part? Beautiful! :-*
-
Always loved the look of the Sea Vixen. Great work on this one! :-*

She looks very sleek in GSB 8) Only mod I think the USN would have made would have been to modify the cockpit to a true side by side with a full bubble canopy.
-
A real stunner all 'way 'round! U.S. Navy markings look like they belong, too!

Which kit is this based on? It really looks the part.
I've got the Airfix 48th Vixen to do properly, and
the Revell 72nd to do something else with.

Outstanding !! Excellent execution !! I have a question though, what is the flat canopy for ? Didn't the right seater get to see anything ? Is it only a single seater ?
-
Yes it's a twin seater, the flat canopy is so the Observer has a 'view' from the "coal hole" to help with vertigo which was a prob for the original FAW Mk.1 as it had a solid cover and only a small window for the poor wretch :o, this is a FAW Mk.2 that's been well Whiffed. 8)

I see thanks for the info.

Lovely job ! And er ... what he said !! :)

Wow what a fantastic looking model!
Although if it was in USN service, and given the size of the Sea Vixen, including it's nose size, I'm thinking they would have slung Aim-7 Sparrow's and a matching radar with it!!
Either way I love your work!!
