Footage and photographs have emerged of the Japanese Kawasaki C-2 Electronic Intelligence variant (also dubbed “RC-2”) operating at Iruma Air Base, north of western Tokyo, Japan.

The aircraft, a heavily modified baseline C-2 tactical transport aircraft with a modified nose section and large fairings top of the tail, fuselage and sides of it, as well as several antennas underneath the fuselage, is serialled 18-1202 and was first spotted undergoing taxi tests and first flights at Japan Air Self-Defense Force base at Gifu, home of JASDF’s Air Development and Test Command and Kawasaki Heavy Industries facility, at the beginning of February 2018. The C-2 ELINT is going to replace the obsolete JASDF’s YS-11EB ELINT aircraft.

Story is here: https://theaviationist.com/2018/06/27/footage-of-japans-new-kawasaki-c-2-elint-variant-operating-from-iruma-air-base-emerge/

So when is someone going to bring out a kit of the C-2? Then we can have a conversion kit for the RC-2! What’s the hold up Hasegawa?

Nice pics and article, thanks for posting.

As I was watched the ISS orbit overhead this morning, why not post the reason why you can spot it very easily.

Today's #SpaceStation20th fact: The acre of solar panels that power the station means sometimes you can look up in the sky at dawn or dusk and see the spaceship flying over your home, even if you live in a big city. Find sighting opportunities at http://spotthestation.nasa.gov !

Says something about cooling the station that there's about as much square footage dedicated to radiators as there is to solar arrays.  The truss assemblies with the solar panels and radiators were interesting projects to work on when I contracted at Rocketdyne.  I think I can still point to the individual truss segments there.

2018 will be remembered as the year of the Buchons! Three newly restored examples from the Ultimate Warbird Flights stable joined the Aircraft Restoration Companys well known "Yellow 10" on the UK circuit. They have appeared at various UK and European shows (and New Zealand for Yellow 10!) but all four at Flying Legends in the Battle of Britain film tribute was perhaps the highlight.

Lee Proudfoot in "Yellow 10" leads Steve Jones in "Red 11", Richard Grace in "White 9" and Dave Puleston in "Yellow 7" for what I would rank as one of the best formation passes of 2018! Ultimate Warbird Flights Aircraft Restoration Company

A CC-150T Polaris from 437 Transport Squadron refuels two RAF Tornado GR.Mk 4 attack aircraft over Iraq. 437 Squadron has been operating a single Polaris tanker in the region for four years as part of the global coalition against Daesh in Iraq and Syria. The formation was photographed from a USMC EA-6B Prowler that was waiting to be refueled. USMC Photo

  With a bit of imagination, one could re-label that as "A CC-150T Polaris from 437 Transport Squadron refuels two RCAF Tornado GR.Mk 4 attack aircraft from 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron over Iraq" ;)

On Saturday 10 Novemeber the Australian War Memorial opened the Commemorative Area for visitors from 6PM until 10PM.

In that 4 hours 2500 visitors entered the area.

The Courtyard before dusk.

Pictures of First World War soldiers were projected on the front facade, while a set of 6 lights shone a beam of light at Parliament House.  The beam started white, slowly transitioned to crimson then back to white.

The Federation Guard mounted a guard on the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier for the period.  Here is the Hall of Memory and the cloisters that contain the Rolls of Honor (FWW to the left, SWW to the right) after dusk.
