Title: Lufthansa '46
Post by: ysi_maniac on November 01, 2013, 05:39:56 PM
What if germans were allowed to produce civil aircraft just after surrender? in 1946 for instance.

good question, i was thinking about "scale-o-rama"-ing a 1/48 Arado Ar234 into a 1/72 Jet Airliner some day  8)

How about getting the Revell Arado E.555 flying wing and scaleorama'ing it to 1/144th or smaller by swapping the "greenhouse" cabin for one from a smaller scale airliner?

Lotz of airliner potential in that  :)

Of course the German people living in the remains of the war destroyed cities might
wonder why scarce resources are being used to build luxury intercontinental aircraft
of no use to people scrambling to simply survive.

The DC-109, based upon the DC-6 and the Bf-109?

No?

I used a 1/144 DC-6 and a 1/48 Hasegawa Bf-109 F for that fun  build. The upper deck, the "UberClass" section was added by fairing in the cockpit with a block of balsa. It give the plane a Coho salmon look.

If you scalorame an Ar-234 1/72 to 1/144 you get a Jet Metropolitan :D

Am in a state (besides Washington) of overwhelmedness where all are favorites  :-*

I'd suggest the craftspeople who were turning out FW-190 parts instead continue with Ju-52 parts instead and have Lufthansa Air Cargo (LuftLift???) contribute to the rebuilding of Europe.

Just a thought, after the Allied victory, Ju-52/3M production continues, but with up-engined (R2600, R2800?) for better takeoff performance.  Definitely of use in rebuilding Europe and positive reparations (realistically, built at cost, no profit - but keeping people employed and money flowing).

Another option: 1200hp R-1830 engines as used on C-47 would be over 400hp per engine increase.

Thought of 1830's too.

Junkers factory was in Dessau, Saxony-Anhalt which was in the Russian zone, so re-opening it seems rather
unlikely.
 O0

Focke-Wulf was in Bremen, but continued bombing led to new facilities in eastern Germany and Poland.
See above for why that's a geo-political problem, also F-W used forced, slave and POW labour, so I
don't suppose those were the workers Darryl had in mind.
 :-X  O0

Ju 52 production did continue post-war in France and Spain.

R-2600 or R-2800 would be overkill on the Tante Ju. R-1820 or R-1830 more likely, and a pair of either
would suffice to replace the three BMW 132s. Swedish Ju 52 used P&W Wasp S3H1G(R-1340).

I'm thinking that my 1/72 Baade-152 is perfect for this scenario...

A couple of abortive pre-war long-range projects that might generate ideas.

I played with the idea of a Noratlas with the tip jets as a freighter.

OKB EF-140 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OKB-1_140 converted to airliner

Lufthansa, Interflug, ... it is OK.

An Arado 234 could make a straight wing Baade 152 of sorts - especially with some scale-o-rama....?
