G'day Gang,
Apparently there's no thread for this type, so I thought I'd start it off with a few ideas after reading about planned ground-attack & recce variants.
-
There's an aircraft with all kinds of "Could have been" to it!
I've often been tempted to do up a Javelin with some refinements that were tossed about in the real world, like thin wings. I'd also be inclined to replace all those little vortex generators with a wing fence or two.
I've also read that the horizontal stabiliser was completely superfluous and that it was there due to a poor understanding of delta wing operations and the aircraft could have flown without it, so I'd probably do away with that and put on a thinner vertical fin.
I was also thinking about Mirage type intakes with variable centre bodies and perhaps a bit of area ruling on the fuselage.
More powerful engines go without saying.

Various Gloster deltas + some other projects:

Cool concepts. 8)
With a couple Javelin kits in stash, maybe get to a Javelin bash one day.
-
For some reason, I have always seen Javelins in Taiwanese markings...why, I just don't know.
-
Some more old profiles of mine. I have all the kits needed to do these one day, when I'm feeling brave enough. These were for the Patchwork World background which I started on What If Modellers and were intended as a mini-Vulcan strike aircraft and the exec.transport version of it for the Cheshire armed forces, hence the "Avro" names. The actual modelling idea has moved on a bit since there were done. The plan now is to use two fins in place of the outer wing panels (the root chord is identical), with a half an original tailfin as each new fin, now right out on the tip as per the original Vulcan scheme (see the mockup pic at the bottom).

I've had some fun with a couple of the old Heller kits.

4 engines, 2 per side tucked up against the fuselage. :-\ ;D ;D
-
Thanks to Airfix, a variant of the P.348 should soon be doable.
Should it be Canadian or Norwegian. Ah, such dilemmas to have. ;D

Put these design influences into the Javelin:

I like the idea of a Sea Javelin.

Linked in from Britmodeller, credit to whomsoever credit is due for the photograph.
So, it looks quite good. :)

Random idea: Swedish Javelin

Summat else to do with a Javelin fuselage:

Presuming Canada had a missile development capability equivalent of the team that developed the CF-105, utilizing the Javelin for an interceptor based in the north of Canada carrying an indigenous long range anti bomber missile suite.
-
Or even a Javelin armed with some Sparrows?
-
If anyone has the Hawk 1/72 kit of the Javelin they would know that the kit comes with six missiles on pylons. These missiles look like Sparrows except they're about half the size
-
Odd thought, Canadaian Javelin re-engined with J79's or a scaled-up Orenda.
-
Javelin in Luftwaffe markings stationed somewhere in northern Germany.
-
Well Belgium bought CF-100s, so why not have them buy Javelins instead?

Hmmmmm......... :)
-
Javelins made a trip to Sth Africa just before Rhodesia went bad so some colourful desert cam or national-colour livery ?
-
Hmmm...South African Javelin...I might need to order another kit!
-
RAAF maintains its deployment with NATO and replaces its Venom NFs (which replaced the original Vampires) with Javelins

My understanding is that the Belgians were offered the Javelin but were left nonplussed by it after some test flying and opted for the CF-100 instead.
-
Yeah, direct personal experience of the thing was generally a sales-killer for the dragmaster.......
"On no account allow the customer to fly the aeroplane!" ;)
-
Random Idea: Cuban Javelin in scheme akin to this.

I've just been rereading the autobiography of the Gloster Test Pilot who was in charge of testing the Javelin. He won a George Cross for bringing the prototype back after the tail fell off. His views on the Javelin weren't terribly complimentary! It took them 9 marks to get it to the point where it was apparently safe to fly.
-
I had not realised the flat iron was offered to Belgium, I was thinking of Holland as a replacement for the NF Meteors as well. Ok as they had Meteor IV, and 8. Hunter 4 and 6 - so Javelin and Lightning????? ;)
-
How about a Javelin in the Swiss Air Force? Maybe give it some RATO to ensure it clears the vertical obstacles on those mountain redoubt airfields.

Cross it with this:

Hmmm...one could possibly scratch build one of those using a Javelin kit as a start.
