WideFire Radar System
« on: October 30, 2016, 09:17:28 AM »
So remember GTX mentioning a radar for the Air Surface AS90 build ?

I had the Academy Warrior IFV in a completed but yet unpainted stage. Add a quick rifle through the spares box and oddments.

to the paint booth !
First up, as I do want to dual purpose this build back to a RL Iraq version first up some background colour. I plan on using the hairspray method to get the wear through the Desert colour

Add the sensor array on

If you need to know, the turret basis is part of the Dragon 1/48 Lunar Module I did not use on a previous build
Work continues :D

Very cool  :)  So, Lunar Module for the turret. And the radar array?

Looks like a child's toy block, the type they use with shape association puzzles (the ones with the shaped holes).

.... And the radar array?

Well actually the radar array is the top of a Red Door Perfume bottle.
Never throw away anything  :D

we sort of went from ok to meh... I am not really happy with the finish, nonetheless, this is where it ends.
The hairspray paint wearing finish did not work well at all this time, plus the colour is off.
Much swearing, hand wringing and gnashing  of teeth and finally decided, this is it, all over for this build

Oh well there is always next time
Do not be surprised if the turret bit makes and appearance in another build.

One could also imagine the Widefire as a mortar/artillery radar or even a microwave weapon.

That's some serious wear and tear but I really like the idea of the Wildfire radar - makes me think of maybe doing a radar vehicle to compliment my Bloodhound TEL.  :)

Got to agree, the wearing of the over-painting does look wrong but still much better than I could do. :)

Over all, though, very impressive! 8)
