Flush Handle Spaceship
« on: October 24, 2024, 05:26:34 AM »
This project has been on and off for some time, I've only just got around to publishing the build.

Some time back Mrs Lady Mog declared " I think I've broken the toilet " and gave me the sheared off end of the flush handle.

Sure enough the handle was irreparable and I found a replacement and installed it, which left me with the broken handle sitting forlornly on my  workbench, then a braincell in my head said "Spaceship !" And a found object build was born.

First I needed to bond some Polystyrene sprue to the nylon core

Then extend everything forward

And liberally cover in filler.

Also add some base plates so that I can hang some Polystyrene bits off the underside

More when it happens

Do you have any airliner decals in the stash? I see windows down the sides.

This is looking very cool! I love "found object" builds  :-*

Perhaps Mrs Lady Mog should be actively encouraged to break more stuff around the house?

The dark shiny finish looks good.

Thanks for the comments guys

Finsrin :- yea I can see the similarity,  just add wings.

Kerick :- nice idea but this is going to be approx 1/72 scale. Something Boba Fett style or a parasite fighter.

Frank3k :- the dark finish is actually chrome metal which has been cast around a nylon core. Unfortunately it's going to be lost under a coat of paint. But I have a bad feeling as to whether the paint will stick. Time will tell.

Apophenia :- don't encourage her !   ;D ;D ;D

It's off to an interesting start-I'd be tempted to leave the chrome and finish the front end in some kind of stylized shark mouth.

Hmmm food for thought, I don't think I'm going to save the chrome, too many scratches, but a sharks mouth, that is definitely something to mull over .........

Thx

Nope, not going down the pun path ;)

What did remind me of in a basic form was the Razorback from the expanse, the racing ship

Might need 2 more handles though ;)

Thanks all, getting back to reality.

First PSR session and it's beginning to take shape, still needs more filler in certain areas to keep it symmetrical plus it still has a few pock marks to be filled.

Had to take an industrial type file to it to shape some of the chrome/nylon >:D

But not bad for the first session.

Thanks for looking..............

Have you tested how well the chrome takes to paint? Clorox may remove it, if you need to.
The front edge looks like it should have cockpit windows

I'm taking a bit of a leap of faith with the paint. If humbrol rattlecan primer doest work I have some white car primer designed to be used on metal. One if them I'm sure will work..

I may have problems at the joint between new and old.

Time will tell ..... :D

I once made a believable looking 1:1  sci-fi laser rifle from bits of PVC pipe for my nephew, but onto the build.

PSR is sort of complete I'm still finding the odd pit and crack to fill but I'm itching to get on with the details now,

Starting with the engines.

So two discarded tailwheel Door assemblies, some discarded bombs and a bit poly tube and rod later

And some power feed detail using some parts which I think came from a ship and some rod

It looks fairly convincing......

More when it happens.......

Hi all

Having detailed the upper surfaces the lower surfaces now come in for some greeblieing

I've kept it simple, the main fuselage is half a large scale bomb contoured into half a drop tank. The gun pods are half bombs.

Still working on the gun barrels/discharge plates

Just a little more PSR and it will be ready for priming

Still haven't decided what colour it's going to be, possibly a dull yellow or orange, black, starwars standard creme or maybe a copout silver.

It will come to me at some point.

Thanks for looking..........

All the shapes are falling (and fairing) nicely into place. Really like the engine work.

I think I have some of those parts in my spares box! Bonb and fuel tank halves are the most useful parts of all.
I really like how this is coming together.
