I never get tired of looking at photos of soldiers jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft. C-17 here.

Jumpers are the RAF Falcons.

That's a great PanAm route map. I looked up a flight from from Los Angeles, CA (LAX) to Porto Velho, Brazil (PVH) (because it's in the middle of the Amazon) and a "direct" flight with 2 stops would take 35h 20min and cost $779. I wonder what the equivalent would have been in 1948? I'm guessing 2x as long and 2x - 3x as much in equivalent dollars.

Here is an interesting shot of the bomb bay of RCAF Lancaster KB871 when it was with 407 Sqn. You can see it has been modified to be a Mark 10MR with the radar behind the bomb bay and the 400 imperial gallon bomb bay fuel tank modification. In front of the bomb bay fuel tank is a spare main tire. I am assuming the tire was raised and lowered using the bomb bay weapons winching system because it probably weights 300-400 lbs. Looks like the crew just landed or are just preparing to go with some of their crew bags sitting on the ground by the crew door. (RCAF photo)

Royal Australian Air Force F-18 Super Hornet Incident at RAAF Base Amberley.

Earlier this morning a  Royal Australian Air Force F-18 Super Hornet was departing with several other aircraft for a routine mission from RAAF Base Amberley, Queensland, when it ended up in the grass area beside runway. It is unknown at this stage the reason for this incident. Both pilots ejected the aircraft and reports indicate that no personal or third parties were injured.

The serial is not confirmed yet, but reported as A44-223 assigned to the 1st Squadron - the first squadron outside the United States, to fly the Super Hornet.

The burn marks that the media are making such an issue of are obviously from the ejection seats.

Wonder how long it will be befor Hasegawa modifies their V-22B tooling, or includes the necessary bits as extras, to depict this version?

Never, there will only be new decals provided at all

Sadly believable as their kitting of the ATTB only had decal changes and not parts for any of the noticeable mods.

Via Facebook.  Poster is HowdiColour Image Recovery & Colour.

Three parts:
  • Please read his comments first
  • Link to the Flickr Repository
  • Links to his colorizations

Approximately 12 years ago I was extremely fortunate to come into contact with an individual who preferred to remain 'anonymous' to most other people, and only referred to in the '3rd party' to mentioned as 'Anyjazz65'. Whether that's changed over the years I have no idea, but I am going still honour his wishes regardless!

His website was/remains awash with numerous collections of family and historical photographs that he had produced from buying up old negatives. In communication we shared a mutual love of old processing, and film stock, but most amazingly, he made me aware of set of negatives he had already started slowly uploading that once belonged to one of the 91st BG base photographers at Bassingbourn during WW2! At the time this page was called the 'Bassingbourn: Lost Gallery' and he basically had idea what had!?

The collection is now extremely well known, and has been fully uploaded, and is now been renamed : 'In The South Of England 1944' on Flickr, and is an absolute treasure trove of amazing quality negatives of 91st BG during war time. In mutual respect, kindness, some work, and a bit of research, I was kindly allowed copies for my own use, and I have prised them ever since.

Some of them are so great that I decided to give them a go. Though there are about 300 in total, I have chosen just a small handful of shots of 'visiting' and unusual aircraft over and above the normal 91st BG B-17's.

Though a number of the images within collection were of the photographer himself (a Lieutenant ) we found it impossible at the time to track down his name, and so (as far I know) his still remains a mystery. However, the full amazing collection can be viewed here:  https://www.flickr.com/.../490243.../sets/72157608125792619/

Always been intrigued with Soviet persistence of mass take-offs, as demonstrated by this Linked take off of Soviet MiG-27's.
