Hi all

Another quick and unexciting Progress Report

All the wings are on, just needs a little PSR and final touches before entering the paint shop.

Yes and no.  Two medivacish builds figured out.  One as next build and other for civilian group build later.

D I S A S T E R !!!!!!

It's obviously something to do with the existing light blue paint, I dont know what type of paint it is, but by the way it came off when I was removing the decals its possibly early acrylic or artist oils because the rattle can white primer has had a horrendous reaction with it and left me with this loose orange peel effect.

Wow!  That is most unfortunate for your project.  Hope you can get it sorted out and determine what caused this.

Well, after a lot of scraping, sanding and swearing I'm back to plastic. Intriguing that the existing paint wouldn't sand but after the spraying it splinters off easily using a square blade.

by Robomog, on Flickr

Back to the spray shop soon, hopefully this time it will work  :icon_meditation:

Thanks for looking

Hi all

The Heron has had its first coat of primer and and is not looking too bad, only a couple of tiny areas where the paint has reacted again and fortunately  i was able to sand them out. More problematical are scratches in the plastic appearing where I must have got a bit over zealous with the scraping and a couple of areas where I have not sanded enough to there is an obvious step in the finish.

I reckon by the time the painting is completed all the rivit/doors detail will have disappeared, on the plus side though the new door will not be quite so prominent,  so the Heron is going to become a bit of a smoothie.

Unfortunately I have run out of white paint but I can get the model prepped (again!) While I am waiting for a delivery

Interesting result with the paint, however a good sand back should do the trick.

Aaaaand........ we're back in the room.

One complete can of spray later I'm back on track

The finish isn't perfect but good enough to carry on, this photo shows ot with the first coat of Alt Kleer. It will get another coat before moving on to the detail painting and decals.

There it is at the back,  the EE Lightning in the foreground is currently in pieces whilst undergoing a restoration but has stalled because I'm having trouble reviving the canopy.

Mog
>^-.-^<

Not a Lightning though is it, actually the P.1a. What kit was that Mog? I've got an Aeroclub vacuform conversion of it in the stash. Have you tried searching for a canopy from one of those.

Hi   Kitnut,   yea it's the Lightning P1 prototype, it's the Frog kit and not in good condition. It hasn't been  treated well by yours truly there's a lot of  gluey stumps where I have tried to attach extra ordinance. I've managed to get it apart and I have hollowed out the air intake and cut out the cockpit so I can install a proper pilot, but the canopy is badly "glued" I've cleaned it up quite well but it's still not right,  as you know it's unique to the P1 so I can't use a later Lightning canopy.

Thanks for the heads up I didn't think there was anything available for this kit, I shall start searching.

Hi all

Once again I have stuffed up, I decided on putting a blue cheat line on the Heron but it has not come out too well  :-\

by Robomog, on Flickr

Perhaps the masking tape was a bit old, but I have had a fair amount of break through and its gonna take a while to rectify I think my mind is going through the thought process espoused on post 3817 here ....

It looks OK. In fact, the overall white with the blue cheat line looks great! Can you retouch the worst spots? The cargo door looks great, too.
