Terran Trade Authority Proximan K-13 Shark
« on: May 15, 2014, 07:35:49 AM »
This is (embarrassingly) an abandoned project that has been staring balefully at me for a couple of years.  :-[ I have resolved to finish it for ScaleFest on the 31th ;)

I have no idea why I never finished her when I had it to that point :( :o Here are the build pics
http://s253.photobucket.com/user/sotoolslinger/library/TTA%20Proximan%20K13%20Shark?sort=3&page=1
I may have been burnt cause I had just built these

I will finish this one to go with those.

The TTA handbooks were all by sci-fi artists of the 1970s "Foss school". The Shark was by Angus McKie.

Nice one Ron.

The fin's a tricky issue because the ship in the forground and the one in the background seem to have different shapes.

Now, now, I'm sure we're all happy with Ron's balls.... ;D

McKie used the Shark in at least two different illustrations, maybe three, and there are subtle differences
in shape in all of them*. Likewise, the plan view that Cowley included in the first TTA handbook has a
nose shape that's a bit shorter than the paintings. Machts nichts, in my estimation - this is a beautiful interpretation.

* The original was for a Perry Rhodan novel, IIRC, called 'Curse of the Tri-worlds' or soemthing like that.

I love the addition of the greeblies! I am learning the hard way that you really can't do without them on Sci-Fi builds or something looks "off". I like the improvements you have made as well. Excited to see this finished  :)

The greeblies help establish scale when you're looking at an unfamiliar object in an unfamiliar environment. Small, simple greeblies, well spread out (as Ron has done), make the craft look reasonably small (the Shark is a 3-seater IIRC). If he'd covered it in a dense coat of battleship bits, it'd make it look huge.
