Looks good Ron.  Have you thought about what you can use for ammunition for this prop?  A friend of mine built one a while back and used the 38.0 cm rockect projectiles from the Sturm Tiger for his prop ammunition since it was the perfect size and shape.

John built that long before the internet became a thing.  It was built on commission for a customer and he was quite pleased with it.

Really hard to believe that a bolt-action rifle action/receiver was used for that prop.  Not a cheap one mind you but a very nice and expensive Steyr-Mannlicher rifle produced in Austria was the basis for that Blade Runner prop.

Hi Ron - nice to see you back!  :) :) :)

There's a couple of good vids about the Blade Runner gun by Mythbuster's Adam Savage, who has an obsession with the prop:

Been a fan of these ever since I first saw one in my army shooting days.  It was the prize for the top shot of the army so I got to see it from a distance but never got to touch let alone fire it.  If cash and time ever allows I wouldn't mind buying one, although I don't think they come in a left hand bolt.

Same for me when I saw the Steyr SSG on the rack at the retail shop for the Rod and Gun Club in Wiesbaden, Germany.  I could ill afford the rifle due to finances being spread around for rent, car payments, groceries, etc.  So it was one of those missed opportunities for me.  I should have purchased the rifle when I had the opportunity to do so in Germany as I soon discovered upon returning to the civilian world later that the price for any Steyr-Mannlicher in the United States was horribly expensive.  Now with my upper shoulder replacement from motorcycle mishap number two I am not sure I would actually benefit from having one of these fine sporting arms in my possession. :(

It depends what the prop shop had around.  It could have been something clapped out, or just handy, especially if they had more than one.

You're welcome. All those Adam Savage vids are worth a look: there are some on making and modifying retro equipment boxes that have caught my eye.

Aaaaand perfectly, here he is making a box for the Bladerunner gun:

Here is progress so far. I first decided to modify the trigger guard to a more accurate shape and also correct the crappy casting of the triggers themselves.

After cutting ,heating ,and gluing the trigger guard to a proper shape I broke the dang thing off :o
So I decided rather than trying to pin and glue and still have a weak part I just made metal part from scratch which will be screwed on like the original prop

As y'all can see I also ground off the badly cast forward sleeve between the magazine housing and barrel and will be replacing it with metal and a real screw

I also am doing a custom set of burl walnut grips, synthetic butt plate , non standard greeblies and mostly replacing all the cast in screws with real ones

That's coming along well, Ron! Looks like you've beat down all obstacles (Using metalworking to make a new trigger guard? Yowsa!).

Those new grips are really sweet.

Thanks BdaB. Here is progress so far

I am adding non standard greeblies as the ones that came with the kit were basically lumps of resin. I am not trying to create a perfect to the screen used prop so I figure I could go custom.
