From certain angles that plane is gorgeous, from others it's butt ugly. This is one of the pretty angles.

I'm just trying to figure out what the thinking is behind having "DANGER - JET INTAKE" stencilled on the exhaust hatch for the forward lift engine.

Well having a bill board announcing 'Danger' just in front of you when there's a dirty great big air intake just above it might explain it

Yes, I suppose being scorched by the jet exhaust just in front of you falls into insignificance compared to that. $:-\$

It's not a jet exhaust though, it's just a fan blowing cold air ----

Before he built "Scrappy" he built an even more impressive aircraft called "Draco" based on a modified Polish PZL-104 Wilga STOL utility aircraft powered by a PWC PT6 gas turbine that gave it very impressive performance until it ground looped.
