Looks like you can build right out of the box as an armed trainer/COIN aircraft with four stores pylons and wing tip tanks.  Stores included are four fuel tank/fire bomb shapes for keeping those pesky insurgents in line.  With the individual stores pylons separate from the tank shapes you could add your own flavour of ordnance to suit your fancy.

Wow, for a 3" (76mm) dia. model, it's not cheap: http://www.megahobby.com/avrocarvz9verticaltake-offaircraft172flymodels.aspx ($37!) Sprue Bros has it for slightly less: http://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/fly72014.htm ($28.99). For a couple of bucks I can probably find a suitably shaped piece of plastic...

Like a Mk.32 Super Freighter with Darts in place of Hercules?  ;)

Perhaps even a stretched version of that to maintain weight and balance with the longer Darts sitting out in front, there.

I've thought of that too ---

using a pair of these which are modified Dakota Dart nacelles

Interesting!  How are you planning on positioning them?  One to replace each existing Hercules and one farther out on or under the wing?  I'd think that trying to do a "pull-push" installation would be a bear with those large and hot exhaust ducts.

Just two Evan, but not the actual Dart the DC-3's got (only 1500shp), but a more powerful version. The nacelles I've modified and made copies of will fit on the Sunderland fire-bomber I'm building, the idea there was they got 1900+shp Darts which were eventually upgraded to some 2100+shp ones so a bigger water tank could be carried.

From what I've read the Freighter Mk.32 had 1980shp Herculese so fitting on a pair of Darts of 2500shp would do the trick I think. There are even more powerful versions in excess of 3000shp

The nacelle/engine/exhaust would look a bit like this on the Freighter too.

I thought also maybe the main gear could be retractable, sort of like a Fairey Barracuda's u/c

I was *this* close to finishing my Airfix + Kiwi Resin conversion to make a Mk.31 when some of the decals turned out to be the wrong size. Very disheartening.

Very jealous of those of you with the means to get the Fly kit!

Those are the decals that turned out to be the wrong size. Maybe he's reworked them, but the nose decal doesn't fit the resin nose he sells.

Have you tried contacting him, the time or two I had he seemed reasonable enough.

Mind you, on his website he has both 1/144 and 1/72 scale decals for the same subject and there's two different Freighter sheets for each scale

The piece for the nose doors is the only bit that doesn't fit, everything else is fine. I may get in touch with him, have done before (have also suggested at least three of his current subjects). The size issue and the hardness really killed my mojo and I've not touched it in months.

Anyway. Back to the Fly kit!
