Libya ??
Not my first choice of EE Lightning market.
Now Danish livery.. that is mighty nice.

Must say though, the Falcons on the USAF Lightning look a bit dinky. That is a lot of fuel to burn to cart two tiny missiles to altitude when compared to the chunkier Redtop/Firestreak.
Time for a dual rail mount ?

Maybe the Royal Libyan Air Force ordered some prior to the coup d'état led by Muammar Gaddafi on 1 September 1969?  They already had some F-5s (see here:  https://www.the-northrop-f-5-enthusiast-page.info/AirForces/LibyaAF.html) and had strong ties to the UK as well.  Perhaps one could see a buy in parallel with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.  Of course, these would then later find their way into the Libyan Arab Republic colours shown.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of an optimised collision course Lightening point defence interceptor.

A different or modified radar and a radar guided missile combination, combined with the Lightening's climb and altitude performance is developed as an alternative to long range, ground based missiles due to concerns over the performance of such during trials.

How about an updated Lightning for the Air Combat Fighter Competition similar in concept to the Vought V-1100 and the Lockheed CL-1200-2 Lancer?  Looks similar but improved in many ways, may not win the competition but is available for export elsewhere for countries that have difficulty buying US or French gear.

I don't think so. The Hawker P.1121 intake had more rounded corners.

I think this intake was taken from the Vickers Type 559 (later B6 study) to Operational Requirement F.155T.

I like the size comparison! It really shows what a beast the Type 559 would have been  :o

Harold Smith on Twitter - I think he's from the What-If site.

The model was done by BTS/What-If member CammNut. Not sure if that's Harold Smith or not.
