Tachikawa Ki-54c Hei/Hickory - Special Hobby 1:72
« on: June 17, 2023, 04:50:48 PM »
Hi everyone,
I started assembling this Super Hobby kit

by Rodolfo Masti, on Flickr

to make the transport versione Ki-54 Hei / Hickory no.5541 which had to make an emergency landing on the Towada lake on 27 September 1943. The plane was found and fished out of the lake on 5 September 2012 and was put on display at the Misawa museum.

A quick look inside the box:

As usual, I start building the interior...
I encountered a small problem with the seat backs, which are not clearly defined by their attachment to the sprue ...
This could result in the seats being at different heights....

I am expecting to do a lot of putty work ...

Youch! Perhaps Special Hobby is intending to branch out into the filler putty market?  :o

From what I can gather Special Hobby come in two general "fit" groups; Very Good & Could Do Better. ;)

You'll get the fit fixed, I'm sure, Rod, as she's looking great, so far.

Truly impressive.  I couldn't help noticing in your progress photos: did you airbrush it with the crew door open?  What an outstanding finish!
