After watching a couple of eps of Last Exile I proceeded to the spares facility and also invested time in the Meccano box..
Messers IBM, Acer & Compaq also made a contribution...

Yes.. we will see where this goes.
No doubt another Uncle Les sensation.
You Sir... have the eye for this sort of thing
-
Hmmmm.... The beginning of a vanship, perhaps?
-
Been a little preoccupied lately but tonight I hit the project a little more.
I've installed some LEDs into some pieces of those plastic dowels you get for balloons (aka cheaper plastic tubing than the hobby shop) to make a sort of "Claudia Ore engine"...

If its not "baroque", don't fix it!
I can't help myself sometimes......
As to your project, awesome!!! Vanship meets a little steampunk!

OK - got a little time tonight to bend some brass and attach the egg-beaters, lay down an undercoat and do a little work in the cabin using colour chips from Bunnings as panels.

Its coming together very nicely. I never finished watching Last Exile, but I saw enough of it to like the
aesthetics, and this looks the business.
-
I really like how this has that classic streamline feel.
Looking good!

Tonight's progress. all it needs now is a crew, some dulling down in places and some minor cleaning up.

WOH! :icon_surprised:

This is awesome! I love the preshading under the red. The cockpit is nice, too. What scale is this? 1/32, 1/35 or 1/48?

cheers, the scale... well, it'll depend on how big I make the crew.. which I'm about to do in a sec. I'm aiming at 1/25 ish...

We'll call it finished.

That's some amazing work, Uncle Les!
Somehow you've managed to streamline steampunk.
You have abilities of incredible magnitude. I especially like the dog in the back seat.

-
Thanks Brian. The dog was a last minute idea suggested by child #4.. .. no idea where she gets her inspiration... ;)

-
Resembles my daughter, laying around with a computer device at hand.
Great job on the ship! And a nice touch with the dog. Great suggestion and well executed.
-
Absolutely first rate job. Still not quite sure what it is but it looks great! ;) :)
-
Oh wow, that's fantastic! And the dog is a perfect touch!

-
Weird & wonderful vehicle ... but I love the dog! 8)
-
Wow, that turned out just amazing! I've wanted to build a vanship for several years but I was perplexed by the Claudia Drive, so it's nice to see how you did it. Of course, now there's a 1/72 scale kit for folks who don't have time to scratchbuild....
What was the source of the crew? My first thought was that they came from the Hasegawa Ma.K. 1/20 ground crew but I can't tell for sure.
For Greg and others who are uncertain about this vehicle, it's a Vanship from the anime series Last Exile. http://lastexile.wikia.com/wiki/Vanship (http://lastexile.wikia.com/wiki/Vanship) and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Exile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Exile).

Love these van ships. The Hasegawa one is good but this one is great! Love it, and like the others have said, the fog is a nice touch

The heads are Maschinen Krieger as you correctly point out and the bodies are a combination of Airfix Harrier pilot ( a bit leftover from this https://scontent-a-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/t31.0-8/322895_3155599371165_1382202516_o.jpg (https://scontent-a-hkg.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/t31.0-8/322895_3155599371165_1382202516_o.jpg) ) and a Hasegawa "ski figure set" ( http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mHLlZ6ImaIiWEqpNPBWc4Yw.jpg (http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mHLlZ6ImaIiWEqpNPBWc4Yw.jpg) ) with filler and foil.

Jeez louise, that is fantastic !!! Where'd I put my knitting needles?
-
What's the magazine/comic that the back-seater's reading? ???
Looks a bit like an old Beano but the title doesn't seem to match up. ::)

OK. Never heard of it. ???
-
I was being a little obtuse ;)
Adventure Time is a surrealistic cartoon show that my teenage daughter adores and subsequently, having been forced to endure children's TV for the best part of the last 30 years, I'm sort of enamoured with it as well. It's not actually a comic, I just used some junk mail toy catalog literature and cut out a suitable picture that suited my purpose. I could have equally placed an ad for any of the latest PS2 games in his hands.
On an aesthetic note... I placed the document lower in his grasp to make it look like he was just holding it ready to read (and so as not to hide the dials on his instrument panel), rather than reading it as his gaze is more forward and less down. I'm wondering whether I should reposition and have it fair and square in is face.. thoughts ??
( My wife Karen says leave it alone and move on as you always make it worse when you change blah blah blah...)
-
NO! Don't move it! :o
Positioning is perfect where it is, it looks really natural. :)

OK - I shall accept that and leave well enough alone ! Cheers :)
