Beyond The Sprues

This has probably been done before, but here we go. The parts bin has been raided for landing gear, and I'm scratch building radiators and an oil cooler. There were a lot of cooling lines on the outside of the real one, and even on the floats, so I figured it would need at least two. One under each wing, and the oil cooler will be centre-line. The putty in the oil cooler is simply to block the see-through effect.
It will be over-all silver, so the black base has been done.

Hmmm... I would need RAF decals appropriate for the mid 1930s. Or, make it a civilian one as an entrant into a new fighter competition.

Silver finish overall, still think that Rub n' Buff is better than AK Paste, but it is what it is. Undercarriage frame bodged, decaling begun, bracing wires threaded. Starboard decal split into 3 pieces, but I've managed to slide them all together. There will be a noticable 'glitch' in it, maybe I'll write it into the back story. I seem to recall that some aircraft of that era had the roundels well toward the wing tip, so that's what I did. Plus I like the way it looks. MFM!

Picked up some EZ Line for the rigging - EXPENSIVE! :-\ But I'm going to try it anyway. Threading it through the holes isn't easy, this stuff is very thin and very flexible, the least bit of resistance and it won't go through. So...

CA glued it on to the end of a bit of stretched sprue, and now it's much easier to work with.

I generally use clear stretched sprue but I have a HP Heyford and Bristol Boxkite in the pipeline so I'm going to look very carefully at EZ Line :D

It comes in various colours, but not silver, which would be ideal for aircraft rigging. I tested colouring it with both a silver Sharpie marker and a Molotow chrome pen, didn't seem to work well. Haven't tried actual paint.
