Oooo, shiny
... It looks to me to be a work in progress and possibly the result of maintenance.
The overpainted tailfin was about this aircraft's post-AIMP shift from 407 Long Range Patrol Squadron (19 Wing Comox) to 405 LRPS (14 Wing Greenwood) So, first the 407 Winged Trident was overpainted and then, after a gap, 405's Pathfinder Eagle was applied.
As you say, plenty of evidence of repainted panels and hatches, etc. My puzzle is: Why that great swath of darker paint around the 'RCAF+ARC' markings?
A side query for anyone in the know: Since DND adopted US FS595 c.1989 (when the Canadian Standard book stopped being produced), why do we still see 1-GP-12c colours being listed for RCAF aircraft? Just wonderin'.
