I cannot resist temptation to develop this 2D into 3D

Certainly not a Tamigawa but it is not so bad. Engraved details (surprising)

A pair of Airfix MiG-21PF at 1/144 to build turboprops from fuselages.

To make tail turbojets, instead of Tamiya's Farmer, as planned, I will use an odd model marked as MiG-23 !? at 1/144. In fact it seems to represent one of those MiG big interceptors designed between MiG-21 and MiG-23

I guess that's one way to minimize your stash of unbuilt kits. :)
-
This is going to be interesting! :)
-
Watching this one closely!
-
Kit for tail engines is of Ye-152M "Flipper" and was originally thought to be the Mig-23 by NATO. The original molds were by Otaki and have passed through several users (Entex being one of the most common). Not a great kit, but excellent raw material.
-
Thanks Evan. Yes, I remember it was an Entex kit. :)
-
Great project! :)
-
Hmm this one is rather fasinating...
-
Thanks, gang! :)
-
Wow this one's gonna be fun!
A mixed-propulsion airliner? Outstanding!

Can any of you speak about the aerodynamics of tailfin engine pod. I mean, was Tristar option better than DC-10's ?
Thanks.

Aerodynamically, I'd call it a wash. In terms of system safety and survival of an un-contained rotor burst of the center engine or engines, I'd much prefer the Tristar option. Having done rotor non-containment studies for Part 25 certification (Lear 55), I've some familiarity with the factors involved.
-
What is the meaning of "a wash" in this context? A tie?
Sorry, my primary language is not English.
-
In this context, "a wash" means that the positive and negative aspects of one configuration vs. the other pretty much even out, with neither being that much better, or worse, than the other. Properly executed, both work well and are viable, the differences are in how they affect systems installations and structure (and the weight of those) and, in turn, how that affects aircraft safety in the event (rare though they are) of an un-contained rotor burst on an engine.
-
Thanks!, Evan

Splendid concept :-*
Hope build is moving forward.

Slowly but going forward! :)

Detail of tail.

Jumping ahead 2 1/2 years it is moving at pace of couple my builds.
Looks right. Good eye for jet engines donor kit !
-
I really like what you have done so far. Keep going.
-
That tail section looks great!! Nice 3d engineering
-
That tail section looks great!!
I have the same feeling :-*
-
It's nice to see an update on this great project!
I really like the look of those engines on the tail!
Great stuff!

We can only move as the muse leads us!
Awesome job on the tail engines.

... turboprops ...

Is it possible that the jets are not a booster? I mean, is it possible to balance thrust between propelers and jets to reach best efficiency?

Looking good
-
That's really coming together wonderfully and I like how the shape of the wing engines compliment those on the tail.

The Ryan Fireball did, so why not this too?
-
looks good so far.
-
The Ryan XF2R-1 Dark Shark, developed from the Fireball, had a turbo-prop
in place of the piston engine.

The Convair XP-81 was also a turboprop/turbojet composite aircraft.
