Master Box (http://www.mbltd.info/index.htm) does much more than just figure sets and it appears that we will soon be blessed with another M151 MUTT 1/4 Ton 4X4 utility vehicle kit in 1/35th scale (http://www.mbltd.info/35105.htm). This appears to be the M151 and not one of the later versions as produced by Tamiya and Academy.

No news on the M151 MUTT but for those of us that were wanting a decent BREN Gun and other weapons of British and Commonwealth manufacture it appears that Master Box will be making this happen sometime soon. Two images of Master Box Ltd. Kit number 35109 - 1/35th scale British Shooting Weapons, WWII Era" showing the kit contents can be seen in this link to a topic on Armorama posted by Kevin Brant: Weapons from Master Box (http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=12260)
In addition to the STEN Gun, BREN Gun, Boys ATR, and Enfield Rifles you will be happy to see that the PIAT, Lewis Gun, and Vickers are also provided in this kit.

Dragon Models USA (http://www.dragonmodelsusa.com/) has this listed on their web page as 1/35th "British Shooting Weapons" WWII Era (http://www.dragonmodelsusa.com/dmlusa/prodd.asp?pid=MAS35109). In addition to the STEN Gun, BREN Gun, Boys ATR, and Enfield Rifles you will be happy to see that the PIAT, Lewis Gun, and Vickers are also provided in this kit.

I suspect its a Bren Mk.1.
I also wonder, what is the weapon between the Lewis and the Stens?
Do they include a condenser for the Vickers?
I note that there is no tripod for the Bren.
Does anybody know which versions of the .303in rifle are included? All No.4s or are there any No.3s?
-
Brian, I wonder if the greeblies in the top left corner are parts for the condenser? No pipe though.
As for the weapons between the Lewis & Sten, I see different marks of Sten then a bipod and parts for the Lewis?
I think the tripod for the Bren would be a shade rare though, given its use as a hand-held weapon predominantly.
-
I kept looking at it and thinking it was most of a Thompson, but sure, its the stock and grip for the Lewis. And a Boys! A BOYS!!! ( I like Anti-tank rifles, I do. )
-
Brian, from the picture it looks like 2 x No.3's (1 with bayonet) & 2 x No.4's (1 with bayonet) on the sprue, & I note there are 2 x tripods, so are you sure one isn't for the Bren?
Doc, yep, it's the grip & stock assembly for the Lewis.
Wonder if one of the Stens can be bashed into an Owen gun? ???
-
The Bren's tripod is quite a bit different to the Vickers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1944_Bren_light_machine_gun.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1944_Bren_light_machine_gun.jpg)), unless of course it's an AA mount.
The Owen is quite different to the Sten beyond its magazine position. The stock alone is quite different to either. That said, it'd be quite small so a modification might very well fool a casual glance.
-
I can now see that the mystery weapon is the Lewis's Stock and pistol grip.
I am unsure what the two tripods are for, 'cause has been noted, the Bren's is rather different in concept to the Vickers' and both look like Vickers' to me. Bren tripod was rare after about 1941 in British service but if the Bren is a Mk.I as I suspect it is, a tripod would be perfect for it. The Bren Tripod remained though, part of the CES (Complete Equipment Schedule) for the Bren right into the 1950s but became increasingly rarely issued. I was surprised to see that they were used in the pre-embarkation training in Japan before 3 RAR left for Korea in 1950 so they were obviously available. The later, static period in Korea would have been ideal for using the Bren on a tripod. The superb accuracy coupled with the need to often fire on fixed lines would made it very useful IMHO.
I'm glad there are some No.3s. That makes it even more attractive to me. ;)
-
Oh!... &, Brian, it looks like an ammo box & belt for the Vickers on the bottom left of the sprue, with the condenser can on the top left.
-
Some more pics and info here (http://www.themodellingnews.com/2012/08/masterbox-charge-into-battle-in.html#more), along with details of some of their other new releases.

I only need about 20 of those weapons sets! ;)
-
You can always expect Master Box to do something different. I hope they continue along with the weapon set idea given the success that Tamiya & Dragon had with their various sets.

Only 20? ;)

RE: Track-Link Forums - MB - WW2 British Infantry Weapons set - new kit (http://www.track-link.net/forum/news_industry/24869)
The images included in this discussion show the kit instructions. MB has provided two tripods for the Vickers machine gun so the modeler has a choice between a high mount or low mount for this weapon.

Man, I'm buying that! :P

I never realised life was quite that hard on Christmas Island! ;D
Obviously a model of one of those rare, real life truces between the forces on both sides...

If that isn't based on someone's actual memoir then somebody at Master Box has waaaay too much imagination.......

You guys have it all wrong. This is clearly Masterbox's interpretation of Homer's "The Odyssey", Book XII, where Circe warns Odysseus about the sirens.
"'So far so good,' said she, when I had ended my story, 'and now pay attention to what I am about to tell you- heaven itself, indeed, will recall it to your recollection. First you will come to the Sirens who enchant all who come near them. If any one unwarily draws in too close and hears the singing of the Sirens, his wife and children will never welcome him home again, for they sit in a green field and warble him to death with the sweetness of their song. There is a great heap of dead men's bones lying all around, with the flesh still rotting off them. Therefore pass these Sirens by, and stop your men's ears with wax that none of them may hear; but if you like you can listen yourself, for you may get the men to bind you as you stand upright on a cross-piece half way up the mast, and they must lash the rope's ends to the mast itself, that you may have the pleasure of listening. If you beg and pray the men to unloose you, then they must bind you faster. "

Looks like they are based on the Resident Evil "zombies" (note the bloke in the middle with the tentacle-y things coming out of his mouth).

Resident Evil Alice on a motorcycle and some Zeds! It is about time that someone got around to addressing the zombie apocalypse/dystopian future in 1:35th scale. Though that one zed does bear a slight resemblance to Ron Jeremy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Jeremy) in drag it is all good
-
:o :o
Please be true.. please please.
-
Tis true, check out their website. There's a couple of other sets of Zeds in 1/35th (or compatible with) around too, I'll try and dig out the links ...........

Master Box 1:35th scale Zombie Hunter - Road to Freedom (kit number 35175) (http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/mb/kit_mb_35175.shtml) first look courtesy of Michael Benolkin and CyberModeler.
(http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/mb/images/mb_35175_title.jpg) (http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/mb/kit_mb_35175.shtml)
Now that the kit is out and according to a source in Canada (yes Alvis 3.1) who has had the opportunity to inspect the contents there is no motorcycle included :(
MB does give you a list of candidate motorcycle kits from a variety of manufacturers that will work with the "Alice" figure. The Zombies are clean enough to use as regular people if you do not want to pose them as zombies. So the kit fulfills more than one purpose but for those Alice fans that were looking for a 1:35th scale Alice figure in action I guess this is the kit to have.
-
Hmmm... severely limited choice of modern bikes available in 1/35th. The box shots on the MB site show just two (Tamiya Japanese and Dragon US despatch riders) and they're both small trail bikes that would struggle to carry much weight. The zombies are in modern clothes, so you couldn't set it in WWII to match the Zundapps/BMWs/Urals/Harley 45s and why would a modern survivalist pick a 30-40 year old bike?
A couple of solutions:
1. Use the Harley 45 and customise it, the story being that it's the rider's labour-of-love project and she's not abandoning it, no matter how impractical it is.
2. Use one of the Russian BM clones (Ural/Dneipr etc..) with a sidecar and claim that it's a modern import. Urals are still in production and you can still buy them in the UK. The sort of oddball individualist who'd buy one precisely because it's old and simple, might well be the sort who'd be prepped and capable enough to be a zombie apocalypse survivor. Oooh, there's a story: maybe it's her father's bike. He was the eccentric prepper who taught her this stuff as a kid, she rebelled, he got old and didn't survive 'cos he was frail, but she's now using his equipment and supplies as intended. Hollywood, over to you........... ;D
-
The Urals are also sold in the U.S. and Canada and I've seen a couple contemporary Harley
customs dressed as pseudo-WLA 45s. That's another route, use a Harley WLA 45 kit and
build her a custom ride, after all Harley's haven't really changed that much in appearance
in the last 70 years.

There are also 1/32 scale 'diecast' bikes out there that could be used as a starting point.

-
Harley WLA 45s themselves were popular as custom bikes in the days when no Harleys were really reliable: they only became less popular (along with iron-head Sportsters) after the "evolution" bikes came out in '86. You still see them around though. The WLA's lower, flatter engine is particularly suitable for chops becuase it doesn't force the headstock to be so high.
Bronco do a Triumph 3HW. No more modern than the others of course, but it's different, and could be the basis of a retro-chop:
Tamiya do a BSA M20 as well.
and if you wanted to be ironic, there's always these of course:

OR, since the classic zombie movies were set in the 1970s, you could always use one of these, er, man:

I'll take a half dozen of the pin up kit please! :-*
-
Okay, tearing my eyes off the pinups for a moment, that Austin armoured car is all kinds of useful for what-if, steampunk, dieselpunk etc... There were a whole bunch of similar "twin-tub" bodies built on different chassis so you could use it as the basis for all sorts of credible-looking whifs from the subtle to the outrageous.

Coming out in January 2018 - 1/24 Science Fiction figures:

Wrong scale. :(

Wrong scale. :(
I know - I wish they would make their fantasy/SF kits in 1/35 as well. I just emailed them asking if they would re-scale them to 1/35.
-
Good man
-
I heard back from Alexander Surzhenko, the Director for Master Box LTD.
"Regarding "Space port" series in 1:35 scale, we have not thought about this yet."
So maybe email them and ask?
-
Next up, the Terry Campion fantasy series. ;D

With a dash of "Tank Girl" thrown in?

Ooookkkkkk......

Oh yes.. the standard wasteland protective wear.
What it lacks in protection is made up for by distraction
having met Mr Campion.. yes.. this is in the zone

A thought provoking release, especially with the writing in red on the box top:

Woh! That's one defensive box! :icon_surprised:
Unsurprisingly, however, it shows US Spec Ops types, rather than the more likely African warlords or their (ex-)Russian/Cuban/Chinese military advisors.

I'm in two minds about this news:
- Good on them and willing to support, however...
- Don't they have more important things to be focussing upon than making model kits?

*THIS* would be interesting.

Having just been to the Greek exhibition in Canberra which was based around artefacts held by the British Museum what struck me was how small the Greek Armour on display was. They were all the size of modern adolescents and these were supposed to be adult sized people. :o
-
When I was 14-15, I saw an exhibit of Spanish body armor from the 1600s - I would have had a tough time fitting in and I was a skinny kid.
-
I was watching an Inspector Morse episode a couple of years ago, where he was in hospital. While there he started reading a book about a woman's murder about 120 years earlier and realized the author had got it all wrong so started his own investigation. To cut the story short, the victim was a prostitute who had a nick name of 'Leggy', because she had long legs --- but she was only 5'-3" tall -- at the time she was consider to be a tall woman.
Many an old pub I've visited when I lived in the UK, the ceilings were so low even I had to stoop a bit and I wasn't quite 6 feet tall. Has anyone ever visited an old sailing warship, you'd know what I mean if you have. What I'm getting at is people weren't very tall back then.
-
Try fitting into a B-17!
Then imagine wearing heavy clothes and a parachute.
-
I did that quite a few years ago Kerick, I had a walk-around/through a B-17 and a CASA 2.111 (He111 powered by Merlins). I couldn't imagine trying to walk across the bomb bay walkway of the B-17 with all the gear on while it's maneuvering all over the place, but when I went through the CASA, it's even less space, to get to the front or go to the back, you have to crawl over the bomb racks, where the bombs are all stood up on end in square chutes. There's barely any room between the top of the fuselage and the tops of the chutes.
-
They were all the size of modern adolescents and these were supposed to be adult sized people. :o
They were full adult sized people...for their time. The average height of adult males in the classical greek era was between 162 and 165 cm, that of females between 153 and 156 cm, and with a body weight of approximately 60-65 kg for males and 50-55 kg for females.
-
When visiting HMS Victory, I was one of the very few people who didn't smack their heads on the beams
-
With Age of Sail warships (in fact any ship) remember that they were cramped & low-ceilinged even for most sailors & travellers of the time.
HMS Victory was one of the more roomy, & the ironclad HMS Warrior was positively spacious.

Yep, below deck in Warrior (the first outboard tilt-propeller) was almost like being outdoors in comparison.
-
There was a documentary on the TV not long ago, about the misconception people have about medieval war horses, most thinking they were huge animals the size of Shire horses. But they weren't, apparently they were about the size of a modern day pony but very stocky. The investigators arrived at this conclusion by looking at the numerous collections of body armour the people and horses were covered in around that time. So once again, pointing to not very big people back then. I think we these days would be considered giants --- plus you could see where stories about ogres came from, people like Andre the Giant have been around for ages too ---
-
I have a suspicion that almost any of those height challenged people from antiquity would still be quite the adversary today.

Good stuff! Kinda surprised the Master Box figures mostly seem to be using old AK-47s and that they haven't gone for home-grown rifles like Malyuk bullpups.

looks like the Indian is telling them how big is the fish he caught ;D
-
More likely the one that got away. It looks like he traded a haggis for a down filled nylon sleeping bag. Also, eastern Indians did not use tepees. There used to be a Haudenosaunee on this site, a real FW-`190 expert. If he was around he could go into more detail than this Shinoob.
-
If anything they would be trading beaver pelts for food or manufactured goods. And the teepees are a gross mistake. I wonder if the body paint and feather decoration is anywhere near accurate. Poor guy!
-
Who knows? Fashions changed over time and between communities. Since it was a business meeting, he got dressed up a bit. Now, if he had some iron pots...

Spotted over on ModelGeek: The Mohicans
(https://modelgeek.com/upload/media/entries/2023-10/13/653-entry-5-1697184893.jpg)
I think they'd work well in other settings as well.
-
The whole series of figures is very well done and they would work either as is or in other settings (like post-apocalyptic). The guy on the left must be German, because he's pointing into the distance...
-
Yup, post-apoc was my first thought, Frank. Change out the long guns or gizmo/greeblie them up, add a few other items and there you go. I'll be getting them when they become available.

Missed this one ... I quite like it!

Like these, too. You don't need to ditch the muzzle-loaders, just modify them to something less professionally made - modern rifles & ammunition can't last forever;

I would lose the frills on the buckskin jacket, though, they're far too 1960's-Hippy to be believable in a post-apocalyptic world. ;)
-
Looking at the back of the boxtop (on their site (https://www.mbltd.info/)) the frills could be easily removed or filled in:

I recently found out that the frills on a buckskin jacket actually have a function, see :-

Another interesting duo from the Ukraine battlefield:

Add them to the list!

I don't know about calling it the Mohicans as only one guy looks like a native American the other two are clearly European trapper types.

They're part of a sci-fi set of figures they've been releasing over the last few/several years in 1/24;

Be aware, however, that the images do not always accurately reflect the contents of the box.

This guy is mostly OK, except his right hand is human (five normal fingers) which is an annoyance. They probably changed the design mid-modeling and forgot to fix the sword hand.

The prospector/mule pair looks good for other settings, right off the bat.

The box art is gorgeous but looks more like a donkey. The kit, on the other hand, looks more like a small horse (short muzzle, shortish ears).
To my eyes, neither has caught 'mule'. So, maybe a bit of 'corrective surgery' ... or am I just nit-picking here?

Every time I see new release in this series.
Great move by Master Box, sets them apart from the majority of Injector Manufacturers and intrudes on Resin niche subject space.

No, not nit-picking, I think something was lost in translation and "Mule" was used instead of "Donkey." The features for a mule are not there but the features for a sweet ass/donkey most certainly are.

I'm a sucker for Masterbox kits (despite their shortcomings) and I ordered the Prospector and kit #6, with the Mohicans and two white settlers.
