Aurora 1956 "Whiffer" box-art replicated, TWICE!
« on: January 30, 2015, 04:08:04 AM »
These two kits are Eldon Match Book models are made for the Eldon Toy Company by Marusan in 1968. They are called Match Kits because the packaging was designed to look like a paper matchbook. They are 1/72. The original Aurora kits were in 1/48.

Except for the Revell prop on the SE.5a, they are simply OOB. They are brush-painted and use decals scrounged from the scrap-box. I tried to replicate Jim Cox's 1956 art work.

The Albatros D.III is painted a home-made Deep Purple using Testors Flats.

The SE.5a is painted Floquil Reefer White.

As soon as I can find and build a 1/72 Nieuport 11 Bebe, I will have replicated all of Aurora's 1/48 1original 1956 WW1 models in 1/72 scale.

Adios, Larry.

You've really hit on a cool concept! They both look great. I'm looking forward to the Nieuport 11 Bebe. I vaguely remember it as my first (or one of my first) Aurora kits.

Lovely work! I really enjoy these box-art builds. The Albatros' markings in particular really stand out for me.

Can anyone say for sure the SE.5 is the same as the Revell kit?

According to the guys on the Airfix Collectors site, the Marusan molds are "loose" copies with simplified interiors and different wheel and propellers. They are still available as boxings from Esci. Adios, Larry.

I've quite a few of the Eldon kits in my stash, P-51 (x3), P-47, Zero, Albatross ....... never had very many Aurora kits thankfully.

Nicely done.
This is a good way to show off a model v box art.
