Jonesthetank's Profiles
« on: April 26, 2017, 06:14:55 AM »
Over the past few years I have produced a number of profiles, but not posted a great deal.  So I thought it was time to get started.

In response to M.A.Ds request for a RAN E1 Tracer, here is my attempt, 851 Squadron RAN FAA.

Cheers

Nice work.  I plan to do a turboprop version of the same one day.  I have all the bits already for a 1/48 build too.

Nice profile.
While... it is difficult to read: is the electronic device long or almost circular? (a view from above would help understanding)

OK, turboprop nacelles taken from a Canadair CL415 and scaled up to fit.  Prop blades are a bit big, but they look about right to me.

Also on M.A.Ds wishlist was a Gannet AEW7.  Details were hard to come by, so I've used the few pictures I could find, and a lot of imagination, to produce the following.

And in Gull Grey and White

Maverick did a similar version a long time ago, but kept the original tail unit of the AEW3.

Wow, outstanding Mark!
Thank's heaps mate!!
Your able and willingness to do these profiles have engaged me further into creating more to my backstory!

If you don't mind Mark, I'll PM you regarding yet another Grumman Tracker profile request (Grumman Design 215 / S2F-4)!!

Wow, now I'm pumped. I was really wanting to do my 'Alternative ADF ORBAT' backstory all in one. But I lost it all due to my computer crashing  :(
But I'm now considering posting the backstory in smaller segments, thanks to the kind efforts and talent s like your Mark!

Yes, I'm looking at this profile again :-*
I think my wife just asked me - "Are you looking at your aeroplane Pawn again?"  :P

With a little more research (and the assistance of GTX), these turboprops hence form shall be 2,750-eshp General Electric T64-GE-8 turboprops  ;)

The T64 powered Design 215/S2F-4 should have been quite s spritely performer with the power from the twin T64-GE-8s (2750 shp each) far in excess of the TPE-331-15AW turboprops (1645 shp each) seen on real world S-2Ts or the original R-1820-82 piston engines(1530 shp each) even allowing for the greater weight of the engines and stretched fuselage (details below).

Thank's once again Greg, as I said, this 3-view drawing of the Design 215 / S2F-4 had alluded me in both terms of internet and my hard drives [now save to a safe place on my hard drive  ;D ]

Much more room for expansion/updates of the operational life of the S2F-4 don't you think, when compared to the S2F-3?

I've sent this to the great man jonesthetank with the hope he can work his magic  ;)

Right, M.A.D has sent me a wishlist of profiles to have a stab at.  First off is a KC-97J, a KC-97 with T43 turbprops, underwing auxillary jet engines and a refuelling boom.

I've got others in the pipeline too, time and energy depending!

And because I have a backlog of profiles here's one NOT off his list!

"As more Lancaster’s became available from Canada and Australia, RAF Overseas units began to re-equip with the type.  By February 1945 6 Squadrons of Lancaster’s were available to SEAC from bases in India.  They supplemented the more numerous B24s in SEAC, allowing some B24s to move to maritime duties.  From February to August 1945 the SEAC Lancaster’s took part in numerous operations against Japanese positions in Burma, Thailand and Malaya.  At the end of the war the majority of these aircraft were mothballed in situ, later passing to Indian, Pakistani and French service."

Oh nice one Mark. :P
With its T34 turboprop and axillary turbojet offering higher speed, altitude and off-loadable fuel, your KC-97J's are kept very busy by the ADF in my Alternative ADF ORBAT! :-*

Next on the list, the SF2-4 or S-2H Tracker.  The profile is a Frankenstein's monster of bits from an S-2E, bits of an E-1 Tracer, nacelles from a CL415 and a few other odds and ends too.  Not sure it's exactly how Mr Grumman planned it, but my attempt none the less.

First up in RAN colours

Then M.A.D asked for RAAF colours, so we settled on the Gull Grey and White scheme of the P-3 as delivered to the RAAF....

and the earlier Seaplane Grey scheme worn by the P-2 Neptunes.

Finally a couple of transports.  The Short Belfast.....also from the wishlist

and to finish off, a free gift, but another lumbering monster, the C-133 Cargomaster.

Cheers

Mark

Oh wow, what can I say Mark!
If this is Frankenstein, then I can only say "Its alive!!!"
These are truly outstanding pieces of work, especially when one considers the meagre snippets of information I gave you!

I'm currently writing feverishly on my project, and only hope my backstory can do your time, effort and appreciated profiles justice!

What do you think Greg / GTX, 're our earlier conversation (PM)?

P.S.Your Belfast has a big role to play in remedying the 'real-world' ADF's shortfalls in heavy/outsize lift ccapability in my backstory! You must have read my mind 're the C-133, as it along with the Belfast, was the contender for the RAAF's Long-Range, Heavy Lift Transport Aircraft RfP.
The Belfast eventuality being selected on the grounds of it being a later design, still being in production, and it's latter generation turboprop engines; outweighing the C-133's inherent heavier lift capability........
