^ looks like the "hydro applied paint style" where they float the paint ontop of water then submerge the item to be painted. very cool.
Unfortunately, it only works with enamels. Most acrylics are denser than water (they won't dissolve that quickly). Metalizer (at least Testors) won't work, either. Maybe acrylics floating on glycerin... hmmm... must go back to the lab...
That is something I want to try. Its the oil floats on water principle. Have a few containers with sealing lids for reuse. Each with a different paint color.

Seems like it might work better if the subject were submerged first, put the paint on the water and bring it up through the paint. I saw a video where a gunstock was given a camo paint job by putting it in the water then laying basicly a large decal on the surface of the water then bringing the gunstock up out of the water. The decal stuck to the gunstock and wrapped around all the curved surfaces.
Something really worth trying.
