Nice looking Spiteful in SEAC markings. Personally, I think it would look even better in the all-green scheme :)

I've got that one but I was disappointed with it, it's not 1/72, more like 1/75 I think. Their Seafang though is more the right size (got one of those too)

I am "trying" to complete of these kits.
@Rob: Now that what you mention it, it does look to be a bit on the small side.
@Jeff: I will oblige you with an all-green RAAF scheme. And I'll throw in a pair a Marquardt ram-jets I built for it.

You know, I think the box art would be more impressive if the Brit plane in the background was a Gloster Ace or something like that, instead of the Hornet. That's considering the P.60 was purely a hypothetical aircraft ------ whereas the Hornet was the real deal -- (so was the Ace )

Good idea. The MB-5 replaces the Seafire FR.46, 47. Served beside the Seafang FR.32.

I think I'll get one of those with the Mk.3 tail, to go with the Airframe vacuform I built years ago. Mind you, I've got four of the Falcon kit to build too --- (think Sabre, Centaurus engines and a possible F-82 competitor)
It's a big plane though, bottom pic shows the size well
-
I have four unbuilt MB.5s in the stash: Skybirds 86, Planet, and 2 from Pegasus.
I'll use the Skybirds 86 and Pegasus kits as WHIF material. I will use the AZ and Planet for stock builds.

You and me both...and maybe they are reading our forum.

I like that RCN version ---- hmm!
-
Hannants has now in the Future Releases page the "Sea Baker".
Link to kit is here (https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AZM7561).
I opened my Prototype MB.5 kit and I found on one of the the sprues the arrestor hook.
On the left side between the upper wing and the large horizontal stab.
Buy the "Sea Baker" only if you need the decals which are nice in their own right.
-
Carl, if you're not going to use the hook, I can find a place for it. I've got four of the Falcon vacuform kits to make, one will have a Sabre 7 engine, one a Centaurus and the other two will be a F-82 JMN mind-blower look-a-like. The hook would look good on the Centaurus one I think --- RCN of course --- >:D

Ooh.. I just went all.. ooooohh like. 8)
Terrific scheme

Oh, that is spectacular. :-* Almost makes me want to buy it....except that it is 1/72! :(
Remove the guns and teeth and you have the basis for a cool Reno style racer as well.

So tempting!!!!!

I understand why it didn't enter service but but but but.............

Be interesting to do a Sea Fury, a navalised MB.5 & a navalised CA-15 all lined up together in RN/RAN FAA colours (maybe same markings), as a what was & what might have been display.

Would the navalized CA-15 keep the 4-bladed propeller of the prototype or go to a 5-bladed one or a contra-prop like the navalized MB.5? I could make a good argument for either of the last two options in practice. Might be fun to do both.
-
I have often wondered how to justify multiple platforms filling similar roles, great for whiff but not much good for real life. What I was thinking was, in particular with the light fleet carriers and their limited space, that the fighter selected for each air group/wing would depend on the other aircraft. For instance I imagined a Merlin group, a Griffon group and a Centaurus group, or perhaps a long range strike group with Sea Hornet, Sea Mosquito and/or Sturgeon, a tactical strike group with Fury and Firebrand/Firecrest (or Anglicised Skyraider etc.) and a sea control group with Seafire, Firefly (NF & ASW), maybe even an ASW version of the Seagull.
For the MB5, Fury and CA-15, it could perhaps be even simpler with the MB5 and the CA-15 being tailored to complement each other, say one as an interceptor and the other as a fighter bomber or escort fighter.

Already have one of their 1/48 Ki-48s - plan to do it as a RAF bomber.

It would be nice to see the Chipmunk released. I think it was announced some time back.

One way you can justify it is to cite production issues. Sometimes it gets you more planes sooner if you let two factories build what they already know, rather than forcing one of them to build the other's design in the name of standardisation. This is particulary true if one of the factories is geared up for a an unusual design or construction technique that would take the other one a long time to switch to. Vickers' geodesics and De Havilland's wooden composites spring to mind as examples.

Maybe the Griffon engine MB-5 could have been ordered from the UK along side and initial production batch of CAC CA15 derived naval fighters before the CAC line was retooled for the ultimate R-2800 engined versions.
-
The MB3 was powered by an early Napier Sabre engine and I've always thought the Griffon in the MB5 looked sort of 'lost', if you know what I mean. My plan for my four Falcon MB5's is to build one with a Sabre (not any Sabre though, a Sabre 7 or 8 which were 3000 hp motors), one will have a turbo-charged Centaurus with an exhaust system similar to a P-47 so I can explain away the use of the radiator duct in another way, and the other two as a JMN bait, done like an F-82. I haven't decided what engines it will have yet.
I've already built a 1/72 model of the MB5 prototype quite a few years ago, it's an Airframe vacuform kit with lots of Aeroclub accessories.

Nice! Are they going to include the bits to also model a BAC.221?
-

New wing == new model...
-
Yep, mods included a six-foot stretch.
-
Okay, then that's not likely to happen. I rather hope they scale this down to 1/72, also. IIRC, the only kit available in that scale of the FD.2 is the old Frog kit and it leaves a lot to be desired.
-
Pro-Resin do the BAC 221 in 1/72, and Whirlykit do a vacuform (ex Maintrack) also in 1/72. Got one of those in the stash
-
The R22 and R44 are good news, but they may end up like the C180/185 which were originally announced a couple of years ago (if not longer).

I've got the old Maintrack kit; I want a good 1/72 FD.2 as all I have for that is the old (very!) Frog kit.

Hi Jacek: Did AZ Models use your artwork without your permission? If they did, your should ask for royalties and free kits for all your BTS friends.

That Woot speak for itself: before this i didn't know they exist. Maybe not artwork per se, but idea: you can compare colour shemes and even some word used in descriptions. On DA, and in this thread where I showed it first: http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,31581.0.html (http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,31581.0.html)

Colin Strachan of Freightdog just posted this note on the SR.53:
Based on Freightdog SR.53 masters from my resin kit produced a few years back, this injection molded cooperation with AZ Model in 1/72 is due out at Telford next month. A limited edition Freightdog boxing will different decals will follow early in 2018.

Happened to me with the the Canadian Migs story and Omega Models with the Ye-8. Came to an understanding with the manufacturer.

Interesting aspect of the MB.6 kits, they add a new sprue to their MB.5 kit with all the new bits and have a clear sprue with the new canopy. So you end up with a spare MB.5 fuselage and a tailhook for the whiff-ed navalized one. I'm real tempted to do a navalized MB.6 in FAA colors.

I should have one in the next few days, it's in transit from the UK where a friend got one for me from Telford. My plan is to have a Napier Sabre engine on the front of the two-seater version. Specifically, a Sabre VIII of over 3000 hp with a contra-prop

Ah Ha! just what I wanted to see, I need a few of those. The Seafang is more to scale than the Spiteful that they also do, I've got one of each and was surprised to find they were different in size. I'd say the Spiteful is about 1/75 to 1/77 scale.

Coming soon. And I just bought the Mach 2 kit.

Where are the weapons there? I presume one could add wingtip Sidewinder rails but that's about it. You'd definitely need to re-engine it, though, with reliable and more powerful engines (shoehorn a pair of J79s in there?)

I did not see any sprue shots (yet). If none, then off to spares box. In addition to your re-engine, maybe mixed propulsion with a rocket like the SR.53 and bigger wings are must have.
-
Rocket motor under the "stinger" for the tail surfaces? I wonder how these wings compare in size to F-104 wings? As a thought, enlarge the wings while keeping the front and rear sweep the same by putting the 1/72 wings outboard of a set of 1/48 wings from the old Lindberg 1/48 X-3.
-
The Attacker is a reissue, or possibly a re-boxing, as I've built it.
Typical AZ product. Needs a little care and attention, but providing you do that it's fine. Although I do seem to remember some "fun" with a wing root now I come to think of it. Did mine in BSP colours to join my collection of BSP aircraft during the 1946 assault on the Japanese Home Islands.

So AZ is coming out with the 2 seat EF 128 night fighter before the single seat EF 128?
Night fighter or trainer?
-
Probably the same diff - if this had made it to the air, the NAZIs would have been using a Berlin (http://FuG 240 Berlin) radar, which used a dish that could be enclosed in the nose.
-
I did sketch a theoretical trainer variant years ago:

Huma did the single seater and it was a nice, albeit fairly simple kit, I built it a while ago. Planet and CMK (the same ?) also did it in resin and again it's a nice kit.

English summary (translated)
After a long pause, this month the kit of the a Heinkel He 162 Salamander in 1/72 scale has been prepared by AZ Model for you. This model was conceived to address the customers of today offering them the kit at a very good price – 12,40,- Euro, present the model simplicity and especially the choice of practically all variants of this aircraft, including the projected ones , ̶ so to please all the fans of the „Luftwaffe 1946“. Beginning with the He 162A-1, A-2 and A-9 models, the two-seat He 162S, the He 162B with pulse engines, the He 162D with forward-swept wings, the beautiful He 162C with a the kinked wings and also the prototypes will be produced. Bravo AZ, what an excellent choice!!
-
The He 162 is a pretty simple aircraft, so this is a good idea, especially in 1/72. Huma was great at this - simple (usually) well designed kits that looked the part. Teir last few kits before they went out of business were outstanding.
-
Further research into the upcoming He 162 release appears to show that all 6 kits share the same sprue. It's only the markings which are different.
If the Scalemates spure shots are correct, AZ is providing the sprues same for each kit. And the kit History is showing one "New tool" with 5 "New decals".

I hope this is the case as decals notwithstanding just find and buy the cheapest version of the 6 kits.
And get these decal sheets while still available:

Most of AZ's recent issues have used a common sprue for different versions of the aircraft, so you get loads of spares. The Me 109 K's offer two complete fuselages and the H two sets of wings amongst the myriad other spares that come with them. The Tempest Vi and II come with engines/cowlings for both marques in the box so if you are building 2 Mk II's as I am then you get 2 spare Sabres for other projects.
-
That's interesting Chris, Dream Model has gone the same route. I bought their UH-1Y just before my world turned upside down, it comes with a complete AH-1Z kit in it. You're supposed to use a bunch of bits that are common between the two to build the UH-1Y

Good catch Chris. The MK Vs do not have the extra cowling. So before I buy a kit from AZ, I head over to Super-Hobby and check out the sprue photos.

The He-162 looks good, although the number of parts may cause fit issues, since this is a short run kit. The panel lines on the fuselage look wide but shallow, which is fine since the real airplane was pretty smooth. I saw the He 162 at Planes of Fame and was amazed at how tiny it is:

The Fi 167's short-field landing and load-carrying abilities made it ideal for transporting ammunition and other supplies to besieged Croatian Army garrisons, between their arrival in September 1944 and the end of the war.
During one such mission, near Sisak on 10 October 1944, an Fi 167 of the Air Force of the Independent State of Croatia, flown by eight-kill ace nar Bozidar Bartulovic, was attacked by five North American Mustang Mk IIIs of No. 213 Squadron RAF. Three Mustangs' pilots, Sqn Ldr Clifford Vos and Sgts D.E. Firman and W.E. Mould, claimed a "single engined biplane, possibly a Fi 167" over Martinska Ves. Bartulovic was wounded in the head and the aircraft set alight, but Bartulovic's gunner, Mate Jurkovic, before bailing out, claimed one of the Mustangs. British records stated that Mould's aircraft was hit in the combat and wrecked in a subsequent crash-landing, possibly one of the last biplane "kills" of the war.
