On another forum not that long ago, there was a discussion of the HMMWV and a stretched 6X6 as well as a shorter version to be used as a gun tractor or gun truck.  I like both ideas and would love to find the time to build a 6X6 and a shorty version one of these days.

Certainly not what you would call an ordinary HMMWV.  The raised roof section is interesting but what caught my eye were the periscopes above the driver position mounted in the roof.

Also quite interesting (and logical) is using the NSVT in place of the M2 or Mk 19.  Neat model all over to be sure, made all the more interesting by the fact that it appears 'real' rather than 'whif'.

After performing a quick check-fit of the HMMWV TOW cupola to the M50 Ontos last night I got to thinking about what could be done with the 106mm Recoilless Rifle mount from the Ontos.  Since the hole in the top of the HMMWV Weapons Carrier is the same diameter as the hole in the Ontos it might be simple enough to just drop the cupola from the Ontos on to the top of the HMMWV Weapons Carrier and make a two or four recoilless rifle mount.  Obviously the lower weapons would need to be left off in order for the cupola to rotate freely.  A two-recoiless rifle mount might be an interesting diversion.

Another idea that I had originally shared on another forum a long time ago and far, far away (from this topic: Armor Fighting Vehicle Concepts From SketchUp on: December 22, 2011, 08:04:41)

The argument to whether the HMMWV could actually carry the Quad .50 mount is based on the fact that the Avenger Air Defense Missile System is mounted on a HMMWV and it is very large and bulky so I figured this would fit and might actually work with a little imagination.  I claim no authorship for either of the SketchUp models that were used for this digital kit bash.  I simply combined the components from the two models together to come up with this concept as a means to share an idea for the purpose of discussion.

Frank3K took this concept and actually built it: HMMWV with Quad .50.  It was nice to see an idea go from a concept to a digital 3D model and eventually to an actual physical model in plastic.

That 'what if' quad .50 Humvee is incredible. I love the concept.

Hmm, wonder how that quad-.50 mount would do in the back of a F350?  Be nice for several aspects of urban, and not-so-urban, warfare.

The original 3D models were created by someone else and uploaded to the 3D Warehouse at SketchUp.  I can take credit for kit-bashing the various components together to come up with the concept but other people made the models that were used for this project.

Someone modeled that on one of the armor forums a while back.  Certainly an interesting and different take on the HMMWV.

Looks like this one would make a better winter camper with that larger box body on the back of the vehicle in red or yellow for off-road fun?

those tracks will fit almost any vehicle.  OK for on the flat but for cross-country you should fit travel- & steering-stops otherwise you could damage your mudguards / bodywork.

In time, this vehicle may inspire its own thread, but as it's billed as the Humvee replacement, I'll put this here.

Wow. My HMMWV with Quad .50 build looks perfectly reasonable and believable compared to this! Is that a Zu-23-2? I only see one barrel.

Angle of the image obscures the left barrel from view.  Interesting addition to the back of the vehicle to accommodate the gun mount.

That's at least a metric ton centered over the end of the vehicle. Must be fun doing wheelies in that.

Pimp my HMMWV

Rear wheels appear to be rubbing against the top of the fender, going anywhere fast or over rough terrain will result in a lot of ruined tyres. :)

Is there one of those silly "Owner's Manual" books for the HMMWV?  Maybe get Google to translate the applicable Technical Manuals to a language that can be understood by the current owner/operators?    :)

If they had done the proper research it might have resulted in the removal of the hard top from the rear half of the vehicle with the additional benefit of placing the weight over the rear axle instead of hanging it out over the back end.
