Title: Scratchbuild planning - Mig-37 Ferret 1/32
Post by: Artoor_K on March 26, 2018, 08:03:09 PM
3драствуйте :)

That was one of few words that I know in russian :) No matter...
Anyway, I'm planning scratchbuilding Mig - 37 Ferret in 1/32. It has a quite simple design so maybe I'll be able to make it (flat panels etc.). My problem is: drawings. Of course, there is a lot of views from top , bottom, both sides...but I need frames, transections , I don't know how to call it most accurate. In other words - part of skeleton which gives it shape :) I've searched through web and found nothing. I'm afraid that only way to get these frames is buing a 1/72 Ferret and cutting it diagonally into few parts...Any better ideas?

Since the Ferret was a wholly fictitious aircraft, You might try e-mailing Testors, since they produced the original kit, to see if they have any reference drawings they would make available. Good luck, in any event!

Thanks, I've just emailed them. I hope they'll answer. I'll also try to contact Italeri since they're still producing 1/72 Mig-37.

You might get lucky, but don't count on it. Given that the aircraft is totally fictitious, it's highly likely that the design team created the whole thing either in early versions of 3D CAD software or using only a prototype pattern model in the final scale. There may be _no_ cross section drawings at all.

Plus, there's the significant fact that this is the intellectual property of Italeri/Testors and most of these companies simply don't give that away under any circumstances.

Buying a 1/72 kit and cutting it to make the sections you want may be the only way to move this project forward.

I'm well aware of this. I'll be lucky if I get ANY answer :)

There's always a 3D model that you can break up into surfaces: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/u94824bcf-56ff-4c45-bd48-63018b0a0950/Mig-37-Ferret (https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/u94824bcf-56ff-4c45-bd48-63018b0a0950/Mig-37-Ferret)

Or a paper model, that you can use as a base design: http://paragon19.webs.com/xplanes.htm (http://paragon19.webs.com/xplanes.htm)

I was very surprised because they actually answered me :) They emailed me an pdf with instruction sheer for Testors Mig-37 - "We hope It'll help" :D

Well, it's not a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

It's just not any more help than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, but at least it's not a poke in the eye...

So...
I have 1/72 plans of Ferret, now I have to enlarge them. I bought 1/72 Ferret and I have to cut it :)

Or you could find a drawing(s) online.

But there is no drawing that could give me cross-sections. I have to cut 1/72 model, copy cross-section on paper and enlarge it to 1/32 scale.

You can buid the paper model and cut it along a cross section.
