New kid on the block for a 35th scale NbFz:

I wonder if it's an offshoot of Dragon?

The following armor kits are announced (with scheduled release date in paranthesis):
35A002 Panzerkampfwagen VK3002(DB) (June)
35A004 Panzerkampfwagan VK1602 LEOPARD (August)
35A005 Panzerkampfwagan VII Lowe (July)
Box art can be viewed at this link: PMMS - Amusing Hobby (http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/amusinghobby.html)
-
Glad to hear about the VK3002(DB). I'm not normally a fan of WW2 German armor but the 3002 will work for an alt-war/ "Imagi-Nations" project I have in mind.
-
Some of the features on the Neubaufahrzeug remind me of the Churchill tank.
-
The running gear especially...
-
One wonders why the sudden burst of NbFz kits, but I'm not complaining. The Leopard and Lowe are definitely welcome additions in styrene.
Thanks for sharing,
John
-
Very nice kit but after looking at the sprues there are way too many fiddley bits for my taste, It would take me forever to build it. :-\ For those of you who prefer a high parts count this looks like it would be a great kit. :)
-
The VK 3002 is a must have. The VK 1602,I'd have to see how it compares to the Trumpeter kit. :icon_music:
-
The VK 3002 (DB) is starting to show up as a pre-order or in stock at various HK-based hobby retailers. Lucky Model is one source- LINK (http://www.luckyhobbies.com/scale.aspx?item_no=AH-35A002) -and I've seen a few on EBay as well.

Has anyone had a look at one yet. I am tempted to get one but to do it as a captured Russian one... ;)

After a period of silence, Amusing Hobby is back with a new release.
And because you (apparently) can never have too many versions of the Soviet Object 279.... (from PMMS)-
http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/amusinghobby.html (http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/amusinghobby.html)
(See our recent discussion of the Panda Hobby version of this same subject.)

-
I will most probably buy one of these Object 279 kits purely due to its wacko shape ;D
But I won't buy one till I see photos of the actual plastic - the CAD drawings (all that's been shown so far) by two of the three companies marketing this kit(s) fall far short of the real thing in hull detail - looks more like early 1970's quality :(
-
Oh, great, another Object 279! Really? Don't get me wrong, I think it's great to have a plastic kit of this beast. But two? If it has to be Cold War armour (which is laudable), couldn't one of them do a M103 instead?
Oh, well, at least it's not the umpteenth grey thing with iron crosses! :-\
-
It is interesting how one company will announce a new kit and soon afterwards, one or two others will announce the same kit. Now, unless they're sharing information, I wonder what are the processes which lead them to all decide to do the same model of the same vehicle, simultaneously?

I think that's what annoys and humors me about the announcement of two or more kits of the same obscure subject at close to the same time. Admittedly, some times one kit will be arguably better than the other in some fashion but I can't help feel that there's an unnecessary duplication of effort. It reminds of that early German heavy tank discussed at the beginning of this thread. Including the one from Amusing Hobby, there were something like five or six kits produced by three different manufacturers in a fairly short period of time. And IIRC, (I'm no authority on WW2 German armor) there were only like three to five vehicles actually constructed. But hey, maybe I'm just grumpy because there aren't umpteenth choices in kits of the various US T20-T23 tanks and the T14. Not to mention vehicles that actually saw service like the Soviet T44 and T54 or, as ChernayaAkula mentioned, the US M103. Heck, for the M103, I even know where to find one just down the road a bit from me, in case anyone needs a vehicle to research.
As for why you have two or more kits of the same subject announced at around the same time, I suspect that while some of it might be strange coincidence, most of it is the result of some degree of reliable inter-industry rumor mongering.
-
I think it's the same "Gee !! they sold How many of those ... lets jump on the bandwagon" as happened with the resin guys like Accurate Armour. AA did a kit of an "obscure" tank & would have sold many more if not for the price -- DML knocked them off several times with cheaper plastic kits fairly soon after, killing AA's profit dead.
I think it was the response to Meng's Tortoise that made DML do the big US tank .... but they rushed it & stuffed it up otherwise they'd sell quite a few. Hopefully one of these three will do a good job on the Object if they're not the same kit.
-
hmm an injection MBT.70 wouldv been nicer ;)
-
Seems the Amusing Hobby is the same mould (perhaps less the PE fret)
as the Panda Object 279 (out & built on Missing Lynx) ...... ok apart from crude & inaccurate surface finish on the front :(
Priced at AU $44 + shipping from HobbyEasy.
Walkaround of the real vehicle here ....

First new kit announcement from Amusing Hobby in a while but it should be of interest to fans of post WWII western armor. Previewed at PMMS HERE (http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/newkitnews/amusinghobby.html) is the British Conqueror heavy tank.

WANT! :-*

Yeah! Way cool! 8)
Here's to more Cold War armour stuff (and, perhaps, a second try at an M103?)! :icon_beer:

Never even heard of that tank (and I'm a Brit), I was amazed there was almost 200 of them built too, and went into service ---
Do they have one at Bovington Tank Museum?

Cool stuff.
I have to admit, I was disappointed with this company when it first came out. With a name like "amusing hobby" I was hoping for something more...amusing. Like tanks with big running shoes for tracks, or planes with butterfly wings, that kind of stuff.
;)
But they've done some great subjects, so my slighted feelings have been massaged into complacency.

Via The Sprue News.
Amusing Hobby has announced a big JagdPanther II in 1/35 scale. The new kit is slated for a November 2016 release, and looks like another great looking "paper" panzer to display.

The JagdPanther II is looking very nice. I can see that as part of Patton's 3rd Army (Composite) fighting the Soviets somewhere in Germany in the winter of 1946-47 as they try to hold them back.
-
Thanks (and payments...in the jar) will be accepted since I purchased a resin conversion kit of this a few months back.

Napkinwaffe is my preferred term for Luft'46, I'll have to figure out an appropriate term
for the, on some levels even more nonsensical, armour "designs".

I have it Bumfwagens. ;D

Sonder Serviette Einsatz Kommando '46

Sonder Serviette Einsatz Kommando '46
Needs to be jammed together into a single word:
Sonderservietteeinsatzkommando '46

Still prefer mine as the designs really are just bumf*. ;D :icon_fsm:
*For those not familiar with the term:
bumf = bum-fodder = documents whose only practical use is for wiping one's fundament. ;D

I can just see a number of those providing air defence for a V-2 TEL based on a Maus chassis. Perhaps a large number of these on the perimeter of a group of the V-2 TELs, possibly with some SPAAG units also mounted on Panther II chassis mixed in.

Love child resulting from the encounter of a Churchill and a Char B1?
World of Tanks [WoT] and War Thunder [WT] have both generated interest in armor subjects that would normally be ignored so I guess we should be grateful.

The ARL 44 replaced French Panther tanks. I guess they needed to build something so they could say they were still a power to be reckoned with. This may make a good whif - if France had fought on past 1940.
-
The Modelling News has some pics and info on both the ARL-44 (LINK! (https://www.themodellingnews.com/2019/05/amusing-hobby-heavy-frenchie-arl-44-in.html)) and the Badger/Conqueror tank destroyer (LINK! (https://www.themodellingnews.com/2019/05/a-badger-in-wild-first-signs-of-amusing.html)).
-
The ARL 44 has always had a weird appeal for me, so I may just have to get one. I wonder how many of these kits will get repurposed as Leman Russ tanks for games of Warhammer 40K? Sure, it’s probably a bit big but for ridiculous, over the top sci fi/fantasy, that’s not really a bad thing.
-
Maybe as a realistic scale vs deformed/"heroic" wargaming scale tank?

For some reason I see one in desert camouflage...

A bit puzzled as to why ?
Amusing is normally doing somewhat off mainstream offerings. The Elefant is one that there are multiple kits already out there.
Somewhat the same with the Centurion Mk 5 up against the well established AFV Club kits.
Although stepping back.. here I am griping about manna from the Gods in these halcyon days of modelling where kits are popping out from everywhere on all sorts of great subjects.

Two new ones announced for 2021:
1/48 Messerschmitt Me.329 Heavy Fighter Bomber:

1/48 Junkers Ju-187 "Super Stuka":
-
The Me.329 will be a definite "WANT". Lots of potential there.
-
What's with the tail lay-out of the Ju.187 in the images on the right? ???
-

Both interest me.
-
What's with the tail lay-out of the Ju.187 in the images on the right? ???
It had a movable vertical tail fin, which could be moved 180 degrees in flight, thus clearing the field of fire for the rear gunner:

Oh-kay ... :-\
Thanks, Greg!
-
It had a movable vertical tail fin, which could be moved 180 degrees in flight, thus clearing the field of fire for the rear gunner:
Of course it did. No added complexity or engineering required for that natty feature ;D
-
So at some point during the rotation, the rudder would have become the elevator and viceversa?
It should have been called the Junkers Ju-187 "Stupid Stuka". If this plane had been built, I wonder how many Dummkopfs would have tried to land with the tail in the wrong position, or been forced to, due to mechanical failure or combat damage.
Of course, enemy fighters would have learned to attack from below or during tail transitions. It's an ugly looking plane, to boot.
-
So at some point during the rotation, the rudder would have become the elevator and viceversa?
As I understand it, the tail surface would not rotate around the roll axis but move up and down around the pitch axis in the horizontal plane.
-
Some artwork:

-
As I understand it, the tail surface would not rotate around the roll axis but move up and down around the pitch axis in the horizontal plane.
OK, but at some point, the vertical tail has to do a 180 rotation in both axes. "Some turbulence to be expected"

-
Oh, that is cool! 8) Kinda unexpected to see such a (comparatively) one-off.
-
Wow - at what point does a T-72 stop being a T-72?
-
Theseus' landship, then? ;D
-
Pretty much! The wheels and front fenders are Russian-ish, but the rest looks new.
-
Wow - at what point does a T-72 stop being a T-72?
The PT-91M Pendekar and the PT-91 Twardy it was based upon have extensive changes from the T-72 though most of them are internal and thus would be visually different from a modelling perspective. Perhaps the different ERA blocks (Polish design rather than Russian) plus external machine gun and the German tank tracks would be visually identifiable?
-
Very happy modeller here  - I have wanted this for many a year:

Hopefully one day someone will listen and make an M-55 S

I need to get one of these for a Canadian What-If. Something along the lines of the Leopard Tank acquisition project (of 1979) was delayed, so we kept upgrading our Mk 11 LR's in a similar way the IDF did. And then who knows, we go with Anglo MBT (Cr 1 , Cr 2) instead of German.

Even though I used to be 15-20 minutes away from Bovington Tank Museum/Army Base and used to visit the place fairly often (and where I used to take mrs kitnut back home each night when I first met her back in the early '70's), I've never heard of this tank so had to look it up. It seems they had the prototype up until the '90's ---- it had a commentary box built on top instead of the turret.

goody, goody, goody !
Another one that will not need to be cobbled together from bits or a more expensive Resin kit. Although these kits are not exactly woolworths prices either.

T-90 and Uran-9.
The Uran-9 is a UGV, I think the first mainstream AFV kit UGV? I recall a resin 6x6 and the EOD Robot bot nothing in styrene It looks to be the size of a M114 perhaps larger than that. It is ripe for BTS treatment - in fact, I had to google Uran-9 to make sure it wasn't a what if!

Rheinmetall wants to provide Ukraine with the KF51 Panther. Expect many more Russian tankers in orbit.
-
This may be the first Panther I add to the stash.
-
The ironic thing is that more model kits will probably be sold than the real tank...
-
Why the odd covering over the gun tube next to the mantlet and turret on the KF51 Panther? I find it odd and out of place and from a maintenance POV, it looks like a PITA for cleaning and maintaining the vehicle.
-
The whole thing looks like it’s covered in “stealth” panels instead of armor. Is that practical or window dressing?

It's just a cover - much the same as on the FK41 IFV:

Apart from assisting with the signature reduction it probably also assists with barrel shielding.
You can see more here (https://www.armyrecognition.com/germany_german_army_heavy_armoured_vehicle_tank_uk/kf51_panther_mbt_main_battle_tank_germany_technical_data_fact_sheet.html) and here (https://www.armyrecognition.com/weapons_defence_industry_military_technology_uk/discover_technical_features_of_new_german_kf51_panther_mbt_tank_from_rheinmetall.html)

It is armour

I feel that's a rather cruel marketing stunt on Rheinmetall's part. They should know that KF51 is many years away from service. At the moment, it's a concept vehicle. Actually, a concept turret on a dressed-up Leopard 2 hull. And AIUI Rheinmetall has neither the license (KMW's design) nor the means to build new hulls.
The better move to support Ukraine (and NATO) would be to drastically expand Leo 2A7 production capacities. With proper funding, I'm sure the industry will gladly open another production line, even if it's just for a limited number of years/vehicles.
