Title: ANSALDO SVA5
Post by: andonio64 on May 03, 2017, 05:18:28 PM
Hallo friends,
as asked by some fellows forumites, here are two Ansaldo SVA 5 (not whif or fantasy builds) I have built in my present modeling life...

Both of them represent planes that served in the 87th Squadriglia during WW1.
In particular they were 2 of the 8 SVA 5 that took part to the raid over Vienna on August 9, 1918.

The first SVA5 I ever made was the first kit in 2011, after maybe 25 years I abandoned our hobby.
It was a SMER (dreadful!) 1/50 Scale.

It represents the plane of Tenente Giordano Bruno Granzarolo (it's the plane hosted at the Italian Air Force Museum in Vigna di Valle, not far

from Rome). unfortunately the top wing broke in the middle and I hwas not able to repair it in a satisfying way.
Another error I made on this kit is the camo on the lower wing, the real plane had no camo over the plain Clear Doped Linen.

Here are the pictures

The second SVA 5 represents the plane of Tenente Aldo Finzi, same Squadriglia.
It is a FLY 1/48 scale kit, very good and accurate design.
Built in 2013

This is the artwork I imagined for a unique base to host the 2 planes:

I hope you'll like them... the no.5 is far better than the no.1

Thanks for watching!

Talk about pure eye-candy! Absolutely gorgeous!

Excellent work on the wood grain and camo and your representation of clear doped linen is very convincing!

The Ansaldo is one of my favorite W.W. I aircraft and you've certainly done it proud!

I imagine in Real World they may have laughed: this camo is so much complicated that no modeller will ever produce a scale reproduction of it! But you incredibly did... Congratulations!

Thank you very much Tophe, I am glad you appreciate my work. To be honest, that camo is not that difficult after all, I see on this forum friends doing things that are far more difficult!!!

Beautiful work!  If memory serves me correctly, the 1/50 SMER kit is the old Artiplast one and, given my low opinion of Artiplast, I'm very impressed by what you produced.

Yes elmayerle, you're right and I agree with your opinion of Artiplast!

Very nice.  :)

To be fair the Artiplast kit is ancient.

Thanks everybody!

@jcf:  the Artiplast kit is horrible and it took me a lot of work to rais it to an acceptable level, it was challenging but fun!

Thanks TBG

Beautiful work on the planes AND the base, Antonio.

Thanks Dr. YoKai, glad you like the base, the italian pilots flew over Vienna and threw flyers with the italian flag and telling the people next time they would have dropped bombs. It was an intimidating raid...

Good night everybody

Antonio
